I love this post - will have to remember it for my own future use - it's a great line!

I also really like your signature line: The journey is its own reward so I can't lose.

It's just what I needed to hear today since my planned long run is in question because I pulled a muscle last night while getting firewood.

Thanks for starting me off right today, OM.

Hey HappyFeat, glad to oblige. It's all about the spin, right? Sorry about your injury, and hope it clears up quickly. Nice to see you here, btw.

Who is this happy feat? Did I miss an earlier intro?

McS - I ran a comfortable 14.75 miles today in 60 degree overcast weather. Ran mile 12 about m.p. but the rest were easy. Ended my 6 day running week with 64.5 miles. Haven't been over 60 miles in way too long.

I did not run in my pj's and I did have some pantses on

I've tried to find the answer to this question on the site, but no luck.

Can someone explain the "gray bar category" designation below your name when you post.

Does it reflect how often you post??

I replied, but got a notice it's being held for review before allowing it to show up on the board. All I said was I'm a friend of Mariposai. What's wrong with that??

Other details: I run because I love it and currently do about 30 mpw with my LR at 10 miles. I was going to increase that today, but will see how it goes once I get going. I'm usually run in the evening after work and am definitely NOT a morning runner. My mileage and LR distance has gone up and down over the 30+ years I've been running.

I did run 12 mcsolarboy, 12 easy fat burning miles for my wings. It was 29F, but the road was icy. I had to stop to walk on the icy spots so many times.

Wow, All caps from Mcsolar and we have a week of taper madness to go still. I am going to need more popcorn me thinks. What's the over under on when he jumps on top of his desk and sings Lady Gaga songs or better yet, some ACDC?

17.6 miles at 10:30 am with three pals. Steady at 8:22 pace. Only had 2 inches of snow from this latest "storm" (on top of no snow here), so the conditions were awesome. Of course this means the month or March will be blizzard month or something in MA.

Sounds like a wonderful run, CNY!

Pass the popcorn.......it's going to be an entertaining week here in MCSolar-land!

HappyFeat.... Hi!........... yes indeed, the grey bar descriptor is related to the number of posts. But I can't remember how many gives you what, just that the distances get longer as you go and Kickster is the top level.

Yes, Opie, we'd love to see an RR! You can't leave us dangling like that!

Cut my LR short today... first time I've done that, but I think it was for the right reasons. Training partner wanted to go to one of our favourite trails in a large forested tract that the mountain bikers and XC skiiers frequent. It's very hilly and gorgeous... with all kinds of intersecting trails, some single track, some double... with the up-and-back making around 11 miles. Problem was, while it was all nice and hard packed snow trail two weeks ago, we had a day of steady rain last weekend and about 6" of powder snow during the week, 3" last night. The forest was drop dead gorgeous, with every limb covered in snow, but that lovely fresh snow obscured what was a very rough, chopped up trail surface. The run was a fight to stay upright and moving forward right from the start. The worst of the terrain was the first 2 miles, where this hills are the steepest and we were breaking trail for most of the route. Then we got into double track where there had been more traffic and the base evened out a bit. Ah, better! But it didn't last for long and for much of the next mile, the only relatively even footing was to follow the XC ski track that went right down the middle of the trail.

We then met a skiier coming the other way, who decided to chew us out for "ruining" his track, and that it was etiquette for "hikers" to stay off it. Tried to explain that we'd tried to stay off the ski track, and that it was a safety problem, but he wasn't hearing any of it. Left in a huff. Sorry, but I kind of figured that my desire to not break my neck trumped not harshing your mellow, buddy. Sheesh... what a douche! I'd already decided that I'd had enough of the fight, as beautiful as it was, 4 miles had taken about 75 minutes, so we bailed for the nearest exit to the adjacent road and ran back to the cars and called it a day. Total of only 5 miles.

I guess some of mc's taper potential energy must have been transferred to Portland. I had the easiest 10 miler ever for me. It was 29°F and 100% humidity with intermittent patches of black ice everywhere, so I was running very cautiously. I didn't care about my pace in the slightest; I just wanted to stay upright. So I was shocked to see that I ran the 10 miles in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Thanks mc! But then the usual five minutes of excruciating knee pain followed after I finished. Ugh.

Bummer about your aborted long run Heme. Your next one will be better; don't let the skier confrontation bother you.

While I was running, I saw a bumper sticker that reminded me of Sans Souci for some reason - 'Knit Naked'. Got a chuckle out of that one.

Opie - Yes please do a RR! Sounds like congrats are in order.

Only ran three today - new arch supports in the shoes - whoo boy are they high!

What are all of these robins doing fluttering around my yard? Seriously - as I type I can count 16 of them out my window. Our weather is so wacky. They must think it is spring.

Heme - sorry you had to deal with that cranky poo.

I think mcsolar's girlfriend must have helped him find the caps key.

I ran 12 today also. probably a bit too fast. i dunno. it felt good.

9.19,

9.50

10.06

9.57

9.34

9.41

9.17

9.29

once I type out the splits, I see it was pretty inconsistent running. My right hamstring has been very tight for quite some time despite my stretching, so about 4 times in the run, I had to stop and stretch it out some and then when I would start running again, it felt good, so I probably ran a bit too fast, then it would start to tighten again, so it slowed me down. It's time for some deep massage on the legs I think because my stretching it out is just barely making much of a difference.

Well I finally shed the pajamas, then got on the treadmill to shed some of the binge weight I took on today. Set the speed for 6 mph and the timer for 50 minutes. Every quarter mile I upped the speed by a tenth. When I got to 7 mph, I reversed the process in the same fashion. 5 miles came too easily and too quickly, so I did the entire thing again. 10 miles in total in 93 minutes, yielding an average pace of 9:18. I think that was the longest I'd ever run on a treadmill, and I was really surprised as to how not horrible it was! Not sure if the fact that I was listening to an audiobook made a difference (just started "Once A Runner"). Anyway, so now I feel redeemed!

Glad your run wasn't hampered by your muscle pain, Happy Feat, but be careful with it now.

Tammy, your run looks like you just had fun going all over the place! Yes, a massage sounds like a good idea. I try to book one every other month, that seems to keep the edge off of things for me.

Heme, sorry about your long run being spoiled like that. Next time will be better, for sure.

Oh, forgot to share this observation I made yesterday during my snowy run: the ducks in the stream alongside the path in the park had snow on their backs, it was snowing that thickly and heavily! I don't know what that struck me as so amusing. They weren't knitting while naked, though....

OK, now I feel better that I've finally earned my shower... and my IPA.... :)
