1. Why do you run?
I originally started running because of stress. At the time, I was going through some pretty crappy stuff (most of it self-induced). I 'stumbled' across running while on vacation and opted to do it because of no access to the gym. The first run was maybe a mile long - but after that, I was hooked. The longer and farther I ran, the clearer my head became and the easier it was to get the crappy stuff out of my life. I run now, because - it reminds me of how far I've come and how powerful the body and mind really can be.
2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
Completing my first marathon - Grandmas Marathon. I had suffered an ITB injury about one week before the marathon, but I decided to run it anyway. I'd trained too hard up to the point of the injury and wouldn't be able to face myself if I didn't do it. It took 8 ibuprofin and the encouragement of a Kick! Runner - ICEDOG to get me through it. He met me at mile 20 and 'paced' me in. I'll never forget it. I'm limping along and here is Icedog ahead of me yelling, "Lead dog coming thru- make way".. When he'd see a hot runner chick in a ball cap and pony tail, he'd point them out and 'motivate' me with select suggestions. . It was truly my greatest accomplishment.
3. What is your motto/theme song?
"There are two ways to wake up in the morning - Alive or Living: I choose Living."
4. How do you deal with bad runs?
Like life - write it off and try again the next day
5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?
No - the run itself is reward enough
6. Who do you admire most?
My grandfather - who's since passed. He didn't understand the word - "Quit". If he wanted/needed to do something, once he decided to do it, it simply got done.
7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?
From my grandmother when I came home one day after working cleaning a stall. I'd walked in and proudly proclaimed, "Grandma, I got $10 for cleaning the stall". She looked at me and said, "No, you EARNED $10 for cleaning the stall". It reminds me I get what I earn - and if I want something - it requires work on my part not just 'hoping and praying'. It's up to me.
8. What do wish you had learned younger?
German
9. What do you wish you could do but can't?
Nothing really. "Wishes" are nice, but "Do" is better. I've determined if there is something I want to do, then I'm gonna do it.
10. How would your friends describe your personality?
Intense - outgoing - friendly
11. Seeing other people happy
15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.
I'm not sure what is 'interesting' about me and what isn't. I guess the fact that I've never ever done anything like this forum before and for the most part, I'm learning as I'm going. There are people here who know 100times more about this stuff than me, but I guess my grandfather's personality is now mine?
16.
