Neil: Go Springboks!

LRR: Sounds like a good time to take up yoga to me.

Me: 3.7mi run outside. Nice day though a bit tricky in parts with black ice. This run finished a step back week and I am proud to say I had discipline and stepped back. Today was definitely a day I was tempted to just stay out there for another 2-3mi.

Q: How many Giants does it take to with Superbowl XLII?
A: We'll never know.

GO PATS!!!

5 miles trail run for me. It's pretty challenging, and actually the first time I average under 10:00/mile in this park.

Thor, have you found any channel showing rugby here? I know there's FoxWorld, but I don't have that.

I was out for about an hour.....
found a group that rides from the HS on Saturdays.
Nice folks, and several that I actually work with...didn't knw they were riders.

Lots of waiting and stopping,....they won't drop anyone. This is great for first timers and slower folks....but I have a feeling I may not be always staying with them as things start to pick up.

They also have a call list of people who will rescue you if you need it. Very cool.
I was able to keep up....even on most of the hills. Yay!

Ride...'bout an hour of total ride time....about 75 min elapsed time.
run after for about 2 miles.
Interesting how the cold felt different on the run than it did on the bike.

Long brick day 5:20

4:30 on the CT riding IM Arizona course: first two hours zone 1, 136 watt average, next 2 hours zone 2, 153 watts, last 30 minutes, zone 1, 135 watts. My quads started burning at 3:30. Maybe too much this week. I had a 1200 calorie bottle of carbo load and Gatorade, and took thermoylte starting at 2 1/2 hours, should have started earlier as at 3:30 hours, I was drying up. Meaning I wasn't sweating anymore! I was a bit worried about it. I drank also 5 bottles of 20oz water, so I'm not sure what happened, that should be enough. I'm not sure the 1200 calories was too much or too little, I had some stomach issues on the run that went away after 20 minutes. Have to experiment more. Also my body weight was 137 this morning, yesterday I was 142. My scale must need new batteries or something is out of wack. Though I like the 137, need to check tomorrow. I did have two beers and pizza last night, I thought I would have gained. Maybe should drink more and eat more fat. ?

about a 2 minute transition and out the door for a 50 minute run (high zone 1, low zone 2). At about 30 minutes I felt like I could run forever. The funky quads were fine, but back up again after I stopped running.

Rest day tomorrow.

Great job everyone, have a good weekend!!

I did my last long run before the HM today! 14 miles and it went really well, the first 11 miles were no problem, the last 3 were tougher. On Kelli's advice I did the 9 min run 1 min walk, seemed to work really well, it slowed my down to just over 12 mm but I'm ok with that. I just want to finish the HM and feel good about it. My ITB was sore but not bad at all and after an ice bath (yuck!) it feels pretty good. Only problem was I got another big blister on my arch, I didn't get my feet wet this time, so maybe my shoe wasn't laced quiet right? the weather was perfect! sunny to start then the clouds came in at about mile 9, which was good because I was getting hot at that point. nice day to be outside after all that January rain and cold.

Pinewood Derby day. The boy got 5th, not bad, his first year racing. He's pissed he didn't win. Well, maybe if you don't pick up the car by the tires like daddy JUST freakin told you to they wouldn't bend and... anyway... dads with scouts know where I'm coming from.

Late day
10.8 mile run @ 2:15 ending w/ 4xstrides and 3x40 butt kicks. I hate getting my butt kicked It was 25 out and still tons of snow everywhere, my kind of weather.

First 40minutes were AG-O-NY. My shin was cramping like it just hasn't in forever. I had to modify my route
1. because I thought I might have to abort
2. because there was no shoulder to run on connecting the 2 areas I wanted to run near

and FINALLY I remembered, HEY, I can't wear these tights or they compress my shin! Rolled them up to the knees (which was HARD they almost ripped because my calf/shin had expanded so much) and then finished off the run strong. First 40min @ a 12ish pace and the balance at a 10:30-11:00 pace. Very solid run. I sought after every hill I could find in the neighborhood. I'm gonna need it, might as well get a start on it NOW.

Nothing yet. TV is lame. And definitely not on Fox Soccer Channel Maybe Neil can give us a rundown.

went for a walk with my very sore legs - felt better to move them.

some pushups and core work after.

5 mile run for me. Well, technically, gmaps has it at 4.9639. My left hand and foot had it at 4.61 and my right had it at 4.81. This is weird for two reasons. First, normally, both are calibrated within a hundredth or two of each other. Second, I ran clockwise, so if one side was going to be longer, it should have been the left. Oh, wait... I thought of a third reason it's weird... what kind of geek wears two different speed and distance monitors at the same time! (Apparently, my kind.)

Perfect running weather for me. Cool and crisp!

Edited to add hugs for Econo's ride and kudos for neimsco's heavy-duty brick!

Scott, I keep meaning to comment on your training. You are rockin'! I can't even imagine trying to train for this early IM living where you do. My weather is not quite as brutal, but there is no way.

Jim

Thanks Jim! I decided last year I had to invest in the computrainer in order to get through winter and be ready by April. Hopefully that pays off, but I'm concerned with the big temperature change I'll face in Arizona. I don't plan to acclimate myself for too long when I get there. I can't afford to take the time off from work though.
