Nice talking to you "Moments Notice" - Congrats on your daughters 1st place age group award -

Weather for Otto Grunski Runski 2 mile / 10 K 78degreees and low 80s% humidity. This will sound like wussy talk, but with waking up with a cold Friday morning and the soupiness - This was not going to be a Flounder kills himself race.

I was very happy and a little nervous to see Brian at the start line (With 1 minute to go) Brian is a good runner and we find ourselves together in races, but I have had his number the last couple. Last year I ran 35:46, this year with weather and body conditions, the goal is to break 37.

Gun goes off (actually it malfunctioned so we heard a click and then a shout of "Go"

Immediately - I can tell it will be less competetive than last year - As last year there were 30-40 poeple ahead of me the 1st 1/4 mile. By 1/4 mile there is 2 front runners and our pack of 10ish runners. Brian just in front of me and Gary (Pushing a doubel stroller with a 3 year old and a 1 year old on board) along side.

1st mile - I am just relaxing and running - Mile # 1 was 6:00 or 6:01. A little slow, so I take the lead of the pack and bring us along in mile # 2 - Gary just off my left shoulder and Brian off the right. Mile # 2 5:53. My legs feel fantastic, but my breathing - o2 intake is not so good. Brian - Takes the lead somewhere in mile # 3.

My thinking is still to break 37 and beatGary (Stroller) and sit off Brian and pass him @ mile # 5. Mile # 3 and # 4 were 6:00 or 6:01s. Legs still felt great, and breathing not so. We lost Gary @ mile #4.

I think I was losing focus, because I kept having to real Brian in mile #5. Although the Runski is Cerified, the 5th mile is long and 6th short. Mile # 5 was called out as a 6:30 mile. 30:25 - I tell Brian - Its mismarked we are 20 seconds better than that.

I decided, I did not want the pain for 1.2 miles, so I would pick it up 2 minutes into mile # 6. When 2 minutes hit, I decided at the 3 minute mark. At the 3 minute mark, I thought the 4. But shortly after 3 minutes, this big Old Clydesdale must have smelled the barn coming, becuase I was picking it up. I had not idea where Brian was (Never look back) - I never sprinted it in, but from 6.0 to finish I was moving strongly. But I was never working hard enough to get the oxygen deprivation feeling of running vo2 max workouts.

Final time - a sloggy 37:08 - Slowest 10k since 2005. I am OK with this - Nice day - Nice workout. Brian was about 4 seconds behind me and Gary (and his 2 kids in stroller) about 30 seconds back.

with warmup and ccol down - 12 miles total. I also did about 5 minutes of core as part of my warmup.

Good running to all -
