Well, since I am not allowed to run right now I went out on the bike for about an hour. I tried to stop at the gym to use the elliptical for an hour but it wasn't open yet! (it was 7:30am, and it was supposed to be open at 7!) So I went home and walked over to the pool to swim laps for a while.

Ugh. I want to run.

Nice talking to you "Moments Notice" - Congrats on your daughters 1st place age group award -

Weather for Otto Grunski Runski 2 mile / 10 K 78degreees and low 80s% humidity. This will sound like wussy talk, but with waking up with a cold Friday morning and the soupiness - This was not going to be a Flounder kills himself race.

I was very happy and a little nervous to see Brian at the start line (With 1 minute to go) Brian is a good runner and we find ourselves together in races, but I have had his number the last couple. Last year I ran 35:46, this year with weather and body conditions, the goal is to break 37.

Gun goes off (actually it malfunctioned so we heard a click and then a shout of "Go"

Immediately - I can tell it will be less competetive than last year - As last year there were 30-40 poeple ahead of me the 1st 1/4 mile. By 1/4 mile there is 2 front runners and our pack of 10ish runners. Brian just in front of me and Gary (Pushing a doubel stroller with a 3 year old and a 1 year old on board) along side.

1st mile - I am just relaxing and running - Mile # 1 was 6:00 or 6:01. A little slow, so I take the lead of the pack and bring us along in mile # 2 - Gary just off my left shoulder and Brian off the right. Mile # 2 5:53. My legs feel fantastic, but my breathing - o2 intake is not so good. Brian - Takes the lead somewhere in mile # 3.

My thinking is still to break 37 and beatGary (Stroller) and sit off Brian and pass him @ mile # 5. Mile # 3 and # 4 were 6:00 or 6:01s. Legs still felt great, and breathing not so. We lost Gary @ mile #4.

I think I was losing focus, because I kept having to real Brian in mile #5. Although the Runski is Cerified, the 5th mile is long and 6th short. Mile # 5 was called out as a 6:30 mile. 30:25 - I tell Brian - Its mismarked we are 20 seconds better than that.

I decided, I did not want the pain for 1.2 miles, so I would pick it up 2 minutes into mile # 6. When 2 minutes hit, I decided at the 3 minute mark. At the 3 minute mark, I thought the 4. But shortly after 3 minutes, this big Old Clydesdale must have smelled the barn coming, becuase I was picking it up. I had not idea where Brian was (Never look back) - I never sprinted it in, but from 6.0 to finish I was moving strongly. But I was never working hard enough to get the oxygen deprivation feeling of running vo2 max workouts.

Final time - a sloggy 37:08 - Slowest 10k since 2005. I am OK with this - Nice day - Nice workout. Brian was about 4 seconds behind me and Gary (and his 2 kids in stroller) about 30 seconds back.

with warmup and ccol down - 12 miles total. I also did about 5 minutes of core as part of my warmup.

Good running to all -

Great running everyone. FLounder-nice race
22 miles for me. I caught a break and the weather was actually cool this morning at my 6:00am start so that definately helped. It was hard, very hard at some points and my legs hurt more today then they have in a long time. 1 more long run next week before I taper. It's going to be hard after this week so I'm going to really have to get psyched. Have a great weekend-beautiful weather here in the NE-can't believe it's August!

I obviously skipped Otto Grunski this year. I love that race, but hopefully Gary (stroller guy) wife might have gotten her win. She was trying to talk me into the 2 mile this year.

Something like being a mom came up this morning and my race was put on back burner. Now I'm waiting for it to get really hot and I might run.

30 min in the pool while Miss SUnshine had her swim class. I can't swim well, so I alternated between treading water, backstroke, aborted attempts at freestyle, and some doggy-paddling.

Then jumped on the 'mill in the afternoon, but kids conspired against me. I gave up after 1.25 miles.

18 miles on a rail-trail. It was along Pine Creek, and very beautiful, except the last 4 miles. My dad dropped me off at Cammal Village, and the plan was for me to run to Whitetail Access to get the car, then drive up to Waterville to pick him up (he was walking 10 miles).

My knee started hurting a little about halfway through, and was burning bad when I was about 4 miles from the car. I could run on it, but was starting to worry that I was damaging things worse, so I walked out the last few miles. It was a section with no shade, just going past cornfields in the hot sun, so it was not a good time at the end.

My poor dad was waiting patiently for me for quite a while by the time I got the car and drove back up to where he was. But he never complains. If you remember, he had bypass surgery and has lost a good bit of weight. This is the furthest he's walked since his surgery. I'm so proud of him!

Oh, and I got a blister on a hotspot that developed when I was walking, not running. boo!

Rest day for me today. I went to the Y to soak in the hot tub because I am sore from yesterday, but alas it was "closed for maintenance." Rats!

Great efforts today!

Special kudos to altoids and Papa altoids. altoids, with blisters walking bothers my feet more than running.

aphigirl01, sorry to hear you are temporarily in a non-running way. Hang in there, I know how hard it is.

8.1 mile run at 10 pm in complete darkness for half the time and lit up by lightning the other half. I swear, every second there was at least one lightning strike, sometimes 2 or. It felt like someone flickering lights on and off for an hour. It was by far the coolest run I've ever had visually. Very much of a progressive run...started at 8:00 and the middle miles were all like 7:40 to about 7...last 2 miles were like 6:50 then 6:10.

I've got some sore spots now though...a spot on my shin and my heel hurt a bit on the run, but the heel thing was from spending 9 hours on my feet in old shoes.

Great run Mike...I miss the competition as well and hope to be as competitive with the runners in my race as I was with you. Get well soon.

Good night.

Plan today was 5 miles of recovery. It was a bit more difficult than I thought, but I took it easy and got through the run.

I did this run in my trail shoes even though the majority of it is on pavement. I want to get the feel of trail shoes on pavement, as some of the Equinox course is on paved surfaces.

Run Segments
