I woman I work with went into labor prematurely about a week ago. They kept her in the hospital, and the baby died yesterday while still in utero. She had to give birth to him after he was stillborn.

I can't stop thinking about it. I keep imagining what it must be like for her to tell her 4 year old daughter that the baby brother isn't coming home. And going back to work and seeing everyone. And being on the labor and delivery ward with a dead baby.

I just wish there were anything I could do to help make it better.

That's just really so hard to imagine - what the family is and will be going through. I'm so sorry for them.

I can never imagine and never want to. [more loss about to be mentioned.....] A friend had a stillborn last year, and knew before delivery (he was born at 20-something weeks, there was a chromosomal abnormality) and i cannot imagine having to deliver a dead baby. She had at the time a 3yo daughter. A patient of mine had stillborn twins last year and she said that everyone walks out of the hospital with babies and she walked out with two boxes/coffins. I just bawled right there in my office. I just could not imagine the pain she went thru. :( Just terrible.

not sure what you can do for her except offer condoloences and maybe bring her a casserole or something. I dunno.

I cannot imagine the pain, both mentally and physically she is going through. Best wishes to her and her family.
