As we are talking about running magazines anyway....

Runner's World wants me to renew my subscription. If I do, they will send me 10 issues of Running Times for free. I like RW. I plan to renew but I'm not sure I need to do it just now.

I know there was some nervousness over the acquisition of RT by Rodale. Any thoughts on RT post takeover?

Billy - I subscribe to both but find that the delivery of Running Times to be flaky to say the least. I guess that's what a $5 discount subscription gets you...

After Runner's World changed format back in 2004 (I think) it seemed to become more of a Cosmo for runners. There are some good articles but it just doesn't hold my attention like it used to. Perhaps that's because it's often the same ole same ole? Probably great for new or casual readers, not so much for others.

I’m getting kind of fed up with RW too (and its covers). I started the thread about RW cover photos. “A Cosmo for runners” is a good way to describe RW these days. I’m looking for less Cosmo and more real training and news. Maybe some good feature stories about interesting back-in-the-pack runners.
I’m thinking about subscribing to Track&Field News again. I usually do that within a year from the Summer Olympics to get an idea of how the distance races might shake out.

Running Times is an interesting magazine that is very broad-- it covers elites, high schoolers, masters, trail running, and has some pretty good articles. I have not noticed much change in the magazine since Rodale bought it. Trailrunning (trailrunner?) is by far my favorite magazine as far as content and useful content.

I like RT, I pick it up on occaision, and like Meri said, it has an interesting mix of articles that appeals to most 'competitive' runners. When I say that I guess I mean anyone who participates in any sort of organized race. They cover the mile to ultra distances.

In terms of interesting articles, I really like Marathon and Beyond. It's a great read.

If I had to chose between RW and RT, I would pick RT. Much more useful training info, for me, in RT.

I subscribed to RT for about 4 years. I enjoyed the regular Pete Pfitzinger training column. Pfitz recently moved on and Greg McMillan has taken his usual spot.
