Good morning!

Tough run for me this morning, I've been fighting off a cold for the past 2 days and seemed to have bloomed full force overnight. Hopefully it won't last long.

Sisu, sounds like you had a tough race, congrats on getting it done!

SB, glad there was no major damage from the storm, sounded rough!

LB, nice to see you here!

Andi, Ron, Amber, hope you all have a good day!

I just realized last night that it is 17 weeks until Smuttynose--yikes! I am going to train like I am running the full....but not sure that my body will agree...which bums me out that I wont be able to run my first M this year...but its my own fault..so I cant blame anyone but myself.....the only other alternative would be to run a M in Dec or something in a warm place ;)..but DH will never go for that...so we will see...maybe my body is stronger then I think???

SUDS--do you really think so? This week HHs program has me running 3m 4 times and then 6m for my LSD....thats a pretty big jump...but I will try it...really hope you are right and I CAN run it....probably wont be pretty....but that again, is my own fault.....Oct just seems so far away I wasnt worried....guess I should have been--lol

Good afternoon! I am back at work today. Wearing flip flops because they are the only shoes besides sneakers that don't bother my blisters. I can almost walk down the stairs like a normal person. Woo hoo! I can't wait to be back out running; hopefully by the weekend. I should be on week 1 of my training for Smuttynose but will ease myself back in this week and next and jump into the plan on week 3.

Suds - I hope your cold goes away soon. Mine only lasted for 3 days so I hope the same holds true for you.

Amber - I am not an expert by any stretch of the imaginations. But, I differ from Suds in that I think you should seriously consider looking into Golloway's plans. You have not been running consistently or very far and I think you are asking for an injury or burn out if you try to jump into a strictly running plan. Either that, or do the half marathon. There is no shame in knowing your limitations.

ANDI--first, congrats on the VT M!! Great job!! Sorry for the blisters (boo)...and that is exactly what I am afraid of: getting injured....I am more disappointed in myself..I thought I had all this time to train..but when I finally sat down and counted the weeks..it was already too late...so I am the only one to blame...regardless..I need to get back out there..THAT is the first step..LOL...

Amber, Andi is right. There are more ways to train than just HH. Galloway's plans are pretty good and will still get you to the finish line without getting too beat up. My wife and niece will be doing the half, if that's more realistic then maybe you should consider the half.

Hi all!

I got out for a run this morning and ran it a lot faster than I planned. It was thundering and getting dark so I sped up and of course it stopped by the time I got to the car. My legs feel good though and that makes me happy. I thought they would be dead from the trail race and bootcamp yesterday.

Sudsy - I hope you get past this cold quickly. I am still trying to shake the cough from the virus I've had for a couple weeks. Good job getting through your run.

Andi - what a bummer about the blisters! I saw some pictures from the race on FB and it looks like it was pouring rain! I hope your blisters heal quickly and that you are able to run this weekend.

Amber - my first thought when I was reading your post was Galloway. (I have to admit though that I am not a fan of the Higdon plans so I wouldn't suggest them anyway) Walk/run is a great option! I also think that you might want to set your sights on the HM instead of the full. How if your PF? That is something to consider when you start to tackle the training.

Anyone else lose toenails from running? Every time I run a marathon I lose toenails. I have lost 4 because of Boston and it looks like I'll be losing another one from the trail race. Doesn't matter which brand or shoes I wear - I guess it's just the way I run. It's really ugly!

Big thunderstorms coming our way and a tornado watch, too.

Sisu - Nice job on the run! I think we are getting t-storms later too. And A is supposed to have lax, bummer! What training plan do you like? I used one Gaela gave me for my 1st and HH intermediate this time around. I don't follow it strictly because I do cross fit 3x a week and only run 4, but I did follow the long run progression.

SISU--yuck about the toe nails...just paint the skin..no one will notice--LOL.....my pf is ok...which is why I have a hard time signing up for longer races then 10Ks..cause I never know if my pf will allow me to finish my training or not...but gonna run 3 tonight is the tornado doesnt carry us away...yikes!--since we live on the lake, I am little afraid of what the winds will be like...

Andi - For Boston last year I used the Hanson plan and I really liked it although I didn't taper enough and was exhausted when I got to the starting line. It was a lot of miles for me but it was fun. For boston this year I used a training plan put together by a local coach and I'll probably do that again for Smuttynose. Hopefully he can make me a plan based on the Hanson philosophy with bootcamp worked in there. You are so lucky you've never lost a toenail! :)

Amber - I do paint my toes where my nails fall off but up close it looks really funny!
