Hey Paul! Good job on your workout today. I saw that 5k you posted yesterday - looks like fun! I'll have to see how it works with the family schedule.

Nothing exciting to report here - just hanging out with my kids and doing laundry. I wish I could go for a run but that's not going to happen today.

Hey Suds and Susan, awesome time in Boston! Race went almost according to plan for me. Felt so good in the beginning that I allowed myself to get about 8 secs per mile under my planned pace. I still felt like I was holding back, but man those hills really did me in this year. I got over them OK but the last 10K was a mental and physical monster to stay focused and I ended up with a 5+ minute positive split. Almost passed out 3/4 mile out and then a couple more times before the finish. Just suddenly felt really weird and wasn't quite sure what I was doing. Had to shake it off and hold on. Really thought I was going to possibly drop. Ran over toward the barricades in case I needed to hold on to something. The cheering got me through.

Already thinking about next year. No guarantees, didn't make the 20 minutes under qualifier, but fall into the 10 mins under category. Hoping that is enough to get me in.

Lee, great to see you too, even if only for 20 mins!

Can I just agree that this weather SUCKS! Susan, you are so right, we hit the jackpot monday.

When I got home Tuesday, no one was there and I had no key so I got to stand in 40 degrees in shorts for half an hour on sore legs. Nice. Yesterday my legs were trashed. Second day is always the worst, but today they are much better. Will probably get a short easy run or bike ride in tomorrow and will prob run with my group on Saturday.

I have a trail marathon next at the end of May. Looking forward to some trail running but not necessarily the race.

Nice running at Boston Johnny! I'm glad you didn't pass out on the course - that would have been a mess!! I feel confident that you'll get in being 10 minutes under your BQ time. I don't have a BQ time for next year and I don't see myself running another marathon before September. I guess I'll be a spectator and bar stool saver next year! I look forward to taking the winter off from those brutal freezing long runs! I do hope to run a strong marathon this fall so who knows about 2013!

I never gave any details about my race at Boston so if anyone is interested here are some tidbits. (I know there are just a couple of us on here anymore so I wasn't going to do it but I decided to so that I can get it out of my head!!) I was definitely undertrained and knew that going in to the race - I had no expectations of what might happen. I got to the start feeling good and decided to shoot for a 3:55 with my running friend. My Garmin was dead at the start despite my charging it the night before so I didn't have that for the entire race. Once we started running I realized how warm it was which was the opposite of what we felt at the athlete's village. I wore my fuel belt with my new sports drink and decided to drink early and often and that paid off for me. By mile 8 my running friend and I knew we weren't going to have a great day so we slowed down and decided to just enjoy it. I even stopped at a porta potty which I've never done. We cruised along looking for shade to run in along the course - there is none except a few hundred yards in Wellesley and one other spot that I can't remember. The hills kicked my butt but we over them feeling OK. One crazy thing that happened is that right in the middle of Heartbreak Hill the woman in front of me stopped dead in her tracks to text someone on her phone. The course was so packed that I nearly ran into her - that really pissed me off and slowed me down. Anyway, the last 5 miles were a painful ugly shuffle and I wanted to stop many times but somehow got through it with the help of my friend. Our last mile was about an 8:15mm which was our fastest of the day LOL! I crossed the finish line in 4:13 and felt good and was able to meet up with Johnny and Sudsy for a celebratory beer right after the race. I had a few goals for this race -- get through it w/o any IT band issues, figure out my fueling, have fun and feel good at the end and I was able to meet all of those goals so I'm happy :) Not sure when I'll be back in Boston to run but I do know that it won't be next year. I need a winter off and of course I also need a BQ time which I don't have right now.

Nice job Susan. Interesting that you felt warm. I hate the heat, but it never felt warm to me on Monday. Prob cuz I spilled so much gatorade and water on my shirt. Look at my finish pictures, I'm soaked. I don't have any more road marathons on my 2011 schedule right now. Too late to register for NYC and Chicago is already sold out. I didn't really like Wineglass (though I liked the after-party!) and I don't want to run Rochester again. I may try to run a couple Halfs. See If I can get under 90 to get into NYC again next year. I'm going to rest up a bit, get back to some slower running and trails and work on my strength training and cross training now. Scored a Groupon $33 three month membership to RAC fitness center which I will probably use sometime soon. Also going to start getting in the pool and see if I can teach myself how to swim. Going to try to be something more than a one-dimensional runner this year. We'll see if I can pull it off.

Yes, it was really warm out there for us JB. We didn't start until 10:40 and I guess that midday sun got us - it felt like there was no wind most of the run for us. My shoulders and arms were sunburned after but I didn't notice it until I got back to the house. There is a fall marathon in NH that is fairly close to me that I think I might go for that. If I'm not up for a full I'll do the HM and try to replace my 1:45pr with a 1:40 or so. I've got a 25k trail race in May and it will be nice to get off the roads to train for that and I'd really like to try to get some speed back this summer because it's just gone right now!

I really think that cross training will take you to the next level, JB.
