Good morning!

Missed my run this morning because I messed up setting my alarm. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Hope you all had a great weekend, whether it was mowing the lawn or sipping drinks by the pool!

We had a good weekend. It's been super busy with baseball and lacrosse, but hockey is FINALLY over!!! We had 2 baseball wins, 1 lax loss and 1 win. My face is sunburned on 1 side from sitting at the fields from 10 am until 4:30 pm. I look like a freak! I had 2 great early morning runs and this is the last week of heavy running before taper. Yikes!

Good morning...and what a great morning it is! Yesterday morning we woke up to about an inch of SNOW on groung! HAHA! I had to wear sandal type flip flops to church...dh looked at me as I was walking out the door & sd "you are wearing those!?!?" I told him my options were my running shoes, sandals or slippers...sandals looked best with dress pants and I had to get up in front of church yesteday morn. :) Not much I could do about it!! my feet were a little cold though..it was like 20*!! :) My toe/foot still feel like crap! :( I am sure there wont be any running this wk yet for me. My calf is also tight on that leg..i am sure I am walking funny on it and its messing it up! UGH!

Suds...glad you got to sleep in...sometimes Mondays are a great day for a rest!

ANDI..yay fro hockey being over! :) I have friends whose kids play year round!! dont how you guys do it!! Although it's like this with lots of sports nowdays, not like when we were younger....ds2 play basektball from Nov to April this yr and we will be starting some tourneys again the end of this month and will play baseball and basketball this summer! I have friends whose kids wrestle year round. Not sure if is is like this in your area but a lot of ds2's friends are down to 1 sport as freshman. These kids are great athletes who could excel in more then 1. Dh and I both have mixed emotions about this..I still think the best athletes are the ones who play multiple sports and dont give up everything else to concentrate on just 1. But also understand that nowdays it seems they want the kids attending camp, strength programs etc and there is never really an off season and I am not sure the kids are any better. DS2 wants to give up football this yr to concentrate on just baseball and basketball this summer and next fall. We want him to stick out 1 more yr because we know he will get more playing time nxt yr. But I am also not sure how the kid will fit everything this summer that he WANTS to do...basketball academy, camps, lifting, baseball practices and games! We dont push him, the kid is driven and loves it, but maybe it is time for 2??

news on teh puppy front....bought new crate that she can not break out of!! She does great until it is kennel time I am calling to get signed up for puppy obedience today. HOping thta will help! Where I wanted to go was not offering anything again until next fall but think we will just go to another place until then...at least it will be a start. The other trainer has a super reputation so we will switch there in the fall! WE all need it! :)

Staci - Sorry the toe and foot are bother you but wearing flip flops in the snow is funny. There are a lot of kids around here who play the same sport year round. My kids do not. For 1 thing, they like to switch things up. I think they get burned out from playing only 1 sport. Plus I think that concentrating on 1 really young can lead to overuse injuries at a younger age. They need to do other things to keep muscle imbalances at bay. I think we are also aware that although they are decent athletes, maybe fairly talented, but not one of them is going to make a career of it so they should just have fun playing and being a kid.

i agree and our hs varsity bb coach spoke to a group of parents recently regarding this...saying pushing your 14yo to play bb (or whatever sport) year round will lead to burnout and they will most likely quit before they reach their senior yr. Plus how heartbreaking is it when you give up all sports to play 1 and then as a junior you are cut?! You are done with athletics for teh rest of your hs yrs at that point. Like I said earlier i believe the better athletes are the ones who play different sports year round...you may not be the "best" at one but you are more well rounded in 2 or 3 and as you get older that will help in all sports you play! and yes 95% of these kids play hs athletics& are done at that point. Should be concentrating on having fun and the "team" side of it...ds2's best buddies are the ones he plays sports with...what memories they are making!

Morning my running friends. I will probably lift tongiht but it looks like a running rest day. I want to try and get a little stronger through the Summer while building my miles back up. We will see how this goes as I will probably have trouble keeping weight on if I run more in the Summer.

Paul sometimes it is good to rest a little more.

Andi we had an easy weekend and I feel rested. One of my girls wants to play LAX but we missed this season.

Staci it is hard playing more then one sport with having more then a couple of kids. My oldest son wants to run some so we will see how that goes. I think he and his 11 year old sister would be great runners but they don't like it much right now. It is all fun now.

Good morning everyone! I will run a little bit later, but I'm not sure how far. I also really need to start working on my core, because since I have been working my lower back has been killing me after standing up for awhile. It's weird to me, because I have only been working 4 hour shifts, and I never had a problem before when I was working, but I guess it's been awhile since I've had to stand up for that long.

Suds-I'm sorry you missed your run, but a little extra sleep is a good thing!

Andi-I'm sure you are happy that hockey is over. That will make your schedule a little easier, I'm sure. Yay for taper time coming up!!!

Staci-I'm so sorry about your toe...and about the SNOW! Yuck!! It snowed a couple of days ago in Boise, too, and my girls were not at all happy about it. I feel a little guilty being down here in the sunshine!

Hey Fer & Ron...enjoy that sunshine!!

Ron..I know and understand & I know you let your kids play what they want. my oldest ds was totally fine with only playing baseball (and I was too! :) ) What I meant was something totally different..these friends of ds2's who have played all these sports up till now and then decide they want to "concentrate" on the sport they feel does the best or they are the "best" at. It is hard to know as a 14yo what your "best" sport will be and I think its sad that they are willing to give up all at a young age. There is nothing wrong with choosing to play 1 or 2 sports or whatever but I just see a lot of parents pushing kids to be the "best" at a certain sport and spending lots of time and money on it....it is worth it to give up all the others and your time so your kid can maybe be a little bit better then the next kid?? i just think there is a lot of pushing kids to excel nowdays in athletics and I wonder if the price is worth it?? I thappened to ds's travel baseball team last yr...1 kid decided he wasnt playing in more so he could concentrate on basketball and snowballed from there... 2 kids decided to not play and concentrate on hockey, 3 on wrestling, ect...the baseball team didnt win all their games but they had fun but they ended up not having enough to have a team last summer..sucked for the kids that wanted to travel adn play ball!

life would be so much simplier then wouldnt it? :) We could all have the time to train to become the elite runners I know we can be and our kids could just follow us around while we participate adn do what WE want to do! :)

Staci we are both just joking. Well that brings up a question. My 11 year old daughter doesn't even run and she was the fastest girl in 6th grade this year. She doesn't even play sports. I can't even beat her if I trained. LOL

QOD if you could make your living playing a sport professionally assume you would make the same amount of money at what ever sport you chose what sport would you pick? My favorite sport to play was wrestling or baseball.

QOD - I have absolutely no coordination whatsoever so I could never, ever be a pro athlete! I didn't play any sports growing up and can't catch, throw, kick or hit any type of ball.
