This was by far the coldest race I have run, and probably one of the coldest runs I have ever done. Yeesh! It was 20 degrees at the start. It was kind of windy. I tried to go for a short jog to warm up, but it felt more like a "freeze your ass off" instead of a warm up. I went back inside until all the runners were paged to the start. I started with a small group from my running club. We were goofing off, trying to take our minds off the fact that it was damn cold.

The race course was mostly residential, so the houses really helped block the wind, which was great. The course went right by my parents house and they were bundled up, sitting on the front deck waiting to see me.

My pace started out well and stayed really comfortable. I hovered between 8 and 8:30 min/miles, which is where I wanted to be. I didn't want to push too hard since I am going to race hard in next weekend's half marathon. I felt really good and was managing to not get caught up in wanting to race with those around me. It was a "fun run" for me. By mile 7 I decided to pick up the pace for the remaining miles. In the last mile I remember seeing a sign that said "Godzilla" with an arrow pointing away from where I was running. I remember laughing to myself thinking, "Good thing I am running the other way!"

In the last half mile I started to get an upset stomach from who knows what. A club member I had caught up to was really good about talking me through it. I had to pull over for 5 seconds (within sight of the finish line!! :mad because I thought I'd be sick, but the feeling passed immediately and I cruised into the finish. I am not sure what all that was about. Oh well. I finished in 1:21:32. I am pleased with it. I placed 1st in my age group (by default since the overall female winner was in my AG, but so what!) and got a funny/cute bobble head as a trophy.

Overall a great experience! Here are some photos:

Great race - Congratulations

I always figure that you pick up 15 seconds per mile when its warm out and you are mentally free of all those close - Not that I am suggesting you run naked.

Fun run and a nice finish time - what more could you want - Other than the cool bobble head - I think that would be a keeper.
