2 mile run/ 10 mile bike/ 2 mile run
1st run 13:06 (6:33pace)
T1/Bike/T2 27:24 (23mph)
2nd run 14:17 (7:09pace)
Overall 54:48

This race is held in Sam Houston State park, about 3 miles from my house and the bike course goes down the same road that I start all of my rides from.

The first run went well. I wanted to push for a 6:30 pace and was able to hold close to that. I was about 6:27 at the turn around, slowed a little on the second mile, but still happy to have set a 2 mile PR for myself. I was around 20th place comming into T1 at 13:06 (6:33pace).

The bike was awesome on the first 5 miles. We had a good tail wind (15+mph) pushing us and I was gaining speed and passing bikers right out of T1. I could feel the wind against the rear disc, which was a bit different from my other wheels, but had no problems getting used to it.
I was hammering with everything I could. I wanted a 24mph bike split and took full advantage of the aero wheels and the wind. At the turn around, my computer showed a 24.7mph avg. I only hoped that I could keep it above 24 now that we were heading straight into the wind.
The return 5 miles was tough. Everyone's pace was dropping. I played leap frog with another guy a couple times, each of us fighting to stay on pace.
I pushed with all I had, but couldn't keep the avg up and came into T2 at 23 mph. Still happy though considering the wind and had the 7th place overall bike split.
I almost wiped out getting off my bike. Just kinda lost my footing and almost went down.

The second run was rough. I had pretty much burned my legs on the bike. I was trying for a sub 7 pace but knew that it was gonna be a struggle to get that. At about a half mile, one of my tri club guys caught up to me. This guy is in his 50s and is an awesome runner. I thought if I could pace off of him, I may be able to get a sub 7. I stayed right off his shoulder and was dying trying to keep up. With about a quarter mile to go, he slowed just a bit and I passed him.
I could hear another guy getting close behind me and I didn't want him to pass me, so I gunned it for the last 200m and held him off.
Finished up with a 14:17 second mile, slower than I wanted but still happy.

Overall I'm very pleased with my last 2 races. It's cool finishing a race up front with some of the faster multisporters from this area. I think I've surprised a few people, including myself. Sheldon must know what he's doing with his coaching. Even though I'm not training for this shorter stuff, something is working well.
