2 mile run/ 10 mile bike/ 2 mile run
14/103 OV
1/9 AG

1st run 13:06 (6:33pace)
T1/Bike/T2 27:24 (23mph)
2nd run 14:17 (7:09pace)
Overall 54:48

This race is held in Sam Houston State park, about 3 miles from my house and the bike course goes down the same road that I start all of my rides from.

The first run went well. I wanted to push for a 6:30 pace and was able to hold close to that. I was about 6:27 at the turn around, slowed a little on the second mile, but still happy to have set a 2 mile PR for myself. I was around 20th place comming into T1 at 13:06 (6:33pace).

The bike was awesome on the first 5 miles. We had a good tail wind (15+mph) pushing us and I was gaining speed and passing bikers right out of T1. I could feel the wind against the rear disc, which was a bit different from my other wheels, but had no problems getting used to it.
I was hammering with everything I could. I wanted a 24mph bike split and took full advantage of the aero wheels and the wind. At the turn around, my computer showed a 24.7mph avg. I only hoped that I could keep it above 24 now that we were heading straight into the wind.
The return 5 miles was tough. Everyone's pace was dropping. I played leap frog with another guy a couple times, each of us fighting to stay on pace.
I pushed with all I had, but couldn't keep the avg up and came into T2 at 23 mph. Still happy though considering the wind and had the 7th place overall bike split.
I almost wiped out getting off my bike. Just kinda lost my footing and almost went down.

The second run was rough. I had pretty much burned my legs on the bike. I was trying for a sub 7 pace but knew that it was gonna be a struggle to get that. At about a half mile, one of my tri club guys caught up to me. This guy is in his 50s and is an awesome runner. I thought if I could pace off of him, I may be able to get a sub 7. I stayed right off his shoulder and was dying trying to keep up. With about a quarter mile to go, he slowed just a bit and I passed him.
I could hear another guy getting close behind me and I didn't want him to pass me, so I gunned it for the last 200m and held him off.
Finished up with a 14:17 second mile, slower than I wanted but still happy.

Overall I'm very pleased with my last 2 races. It's cool finishing a race up front with some of the faster multisporters from this area. I think I've surprised a few people, including myself. Sheldon must know what he's doing with his coaching. Even though I'm not training for this shorter stuff, something is working well.

Thanks for the replies guys!

After checking the official results online, I realized something.

My bike split was actually 6th overall. I finished 1 second faster than Peggy Yetman. She is an amazing athlete who gives the guys a run for it in every race. She finished 2nd overall today. She was in Kona last year. KCWoodhead knows who she is.
I'm honored to have biked so close to her bike split. Now if I could just run sub 6 pace like she does.

Don't worry. Now that Sheldon knows what you're cabable of you'll see a...

"I wanna see below X amount of time for your split!"

Trust me. I gotta deal with THAT tomorrow. Tithers is WORRIED. She doesn't like to disappoint!

Remind me of that tomorrow! My best time was 3 seconds above what I'm expected to do...and I have to translate b/c I swim meters instead of yards.

Kyle was modest in his report. He kicked @$$!!!!! I volunteered to pass out water today so I got to see him at the turnaround on the first run and him going out and coming in on the bike. I always knew my brother was a strong runner but today I saw how strong of a cyclist he is. He gained a lot of ground on his bike. And there is a bit of competitve spirit between him and one of his training buddies in particular. He forgot to mention that he finished ahead of this guy thanks to his strong bike and great running pace. Kyle is on a ROLL!!!! Let's keep that going through November!!! BTW, soon I will be able to post here as a real mulit-sport athlete. I've decided to do a beginners tri next month.

Handy tool to help:

http://www.ilswim.org/timeconversion.htm

If you don't like that one, do a search for "swim time converter" to see what others pop up.

No need to do math when online will do math for you!!

Holy Cow! Awesome race Kyle! Congrats on the AG hardware, and your overall standing is nothing to sneeze at either. Given how hard you pushed on the bike (not to mention your super fast first run time), that second run time is SWEET!

Way to go again Kyle!!! That is just awesome!

I was expecting to be able to come post about 3 PR's in 3 weeks, but the 10k on Saturday just wasn't meant to be. It was 75 at the 9:45am start and I missed a PR by 28 seconds, but I didn't have 28 seconds in me, so its all good.

Kyle: Amazing race, man. Simply amazing. Your speed in each discipline is worthy of all of those times. That's just your hard work shining through. I want you to take the confidence earned from this performance -- the confidence of knowing you can put out amazing speed on the bike and the second run (I don't pick on the first run because you KNOW you have that in the bank) -- etch it into the slate of your mind and use it as a stepping stone to that next level. Because that, my friend, is what it's all about, and that's how you use performances like these to totally blow away even your own expectations. Good things are coming from you... Looking forward to the next few races.

Nice wheels, too!
