Time 21:38 (6:58pace)
7/22 AG (36-40)
43/296 OV

Short and simple report:

Cloudy, very windy, threatening rain.

1st mile - around 7:00 pace, felt good. Picked up pace just a bit, passed a few people.

2nd mile - just under 7:00 pace, starting to hurt a little. Tim, one of my training buddies is right behind me and I don't want him to pass me.

3rd mile - just under 7:00 pace, Pain! I want to stop! Tim is still behind me, gotta keep pushing!

.10 - kick with what's left, I'm dying! Get through the chute and find a trash can just in case. No hurling though. Mainly I just needed something to hang onto so I wouldn't fall over.

Fraking 5K's hurt!!

Finally, finally, finally after almost 4 years of running I go sub 7:00 in a 5K!
New PR! and beat last year's course time by 20 seconds.

Some pics that my wife took.

Finish line. That's Tim right behind me. He usually finishes ahead of me. I'm actually glad that he was back there cause it made me push myself just a little harder.

My sis, Julie, finishing her 2nd 5K. She ran 27:35 (8:54pace) 4/22 AG. She was a minute per mile faster than her race in January. See that guy behind her? She smoked him in the last 100 meters WTG sis!!

Big brother and sis shareing the glory of new PRs!!

Wow great job Kyle and Julie. Nice PR to start the year off right. And for Julie to beat her last one by more than a minute per mile in a month is outstanding.

Awesome race Kyle & Julie. Yeah 5Ks hurt, if you run them well.

Congrats to you both!

PS: Is Julie going to write her own RR?

Awesome!! Looks like Tim's a hurtin' unit, too. I love it. Great job out there, wow I wish I could race with my sisters, that's really cool.

Excellent job both of you! Sub 7, I can only DREAM of that day! And yes, 5ks hurt. hurt bad. Which is why a PR is well deserved. I think that's why I like long stuff, it hurts in an entirely different way.

But if I can nail a PR, all the pain is worth it!

Congrats to you and your sis on your PR's!! Awesome job man, now you can shoot for sub 21 and pretty soon you'll be under 20. Nice improvements and way to be consistent throughout!

Kyle, great freak'n job, and congrats on the PR!!!

And dude, I totally hear you about 5K's, or really any of the shorter races. They hurt. But when you race longer distances often enough you come to realize right away that although the hurt is intense, it is over so quickly.

Personally, I think the more fit we get, the longer the race is where we say, "That's the toughest distance," because a half marathon turns into not a pacing game but rather a break-neck 5K jam from the gun.

Awesome pace, man. Very awesome.

A family affair there - congrats to you and your sis on some fine efforts.

I've never done a 5K race - based on my lone speed event I've ever done (a 4-man relay with a 2-mile loop) I'm not inclined to try one anytime soon either (that mutha' hurt)

I didn't realize you had beat Tim, that's awesome!!! You're right. It's definitely motivating when someone like that is on your tail. (BTW, Those are some funny looking faces)

I felt like I was gonna fall down too when it was over. But I guess that's a sign of a good job. If I hadn't felt that way, I would have regretted not giving more effort.

I am very proud of you and I am so thankful to have a great support team in you, Dawn and Emily. My favorite part of the race was hearing Emily at the finish line yelling "GO NANNIE"!

Okay, so there's another 3-mile race in a month. You think I can shave another 3 mins off my time?

That is my "Crap, I'm about to die cause I just kicked with all I had left and thank God this race is over" face.
