(I just lost half of this and had to start over!! UGH!)
Well, our family had a fun-filled weekend of races. This is going to be a double RR. First, the kids race....

Saturday -- 10th Annual Junior 'Dillo Kids' 1 Mile Run
(I have twins, so I will refer to them as A and B, as in DD6A and DD6B)

DD6A last year: 10:46 8/30 AG
DD6A this year: 9:27 10/47 AG

DD6B last year: 10:47 9/30 AG
DD6B this year: 8:47 1/47 AG!!!!

This is a kid's 1 mile race held the day before the biggest 10K in Texas, so it is a big deal. Last year, there were a total of 324 participants, but this year, they had 671!! What a big turnout!

All 3 of my kids, DD6A, DD6B, and DS2, ran the race along with my running partner's kids, DD3 & DD2, and her friend's kids, DD3 & DS6. (O.K. that was a lot!)

It was a big loop. DDs ran by themselves this year (last year we ran with them and paced them) while all the other kids in our group had parents with them. I ran with/carried DS2. He made it 1/2 mile o.k., but coming back was tough. He did run to the finish, though. He was so cute!

The 6 and under age group didn't start until 9:10, so we got there around 8:45 and got the chips and took some pictures, then lined up to start. I told DDs to get near the front because last year we realized it was really gun time. So, they got in the front, and I got in the back with DS2 and my friend's DD2. It was just an out and back, and we weren't far along when we saw the first kids coming back. It was all boys at first, but then I saw DD6B coming. There was only 1 girl in front of her. I yelled at her to run fast and beat that girl. Then DD6A came around the bend and I yelled at her to run fast and beat the girls (we discussed it before -- just worry about the girls). When I finally finished with DS in just under 20 mins., I found out that DD6B ran really fast, and they were pretty sure she was the first girl. Well, they already had the results up, so I went and looked, and sure enough, she was 1st!!! DD6A was 10th, but the 3 girls in front of her beat her by a second or two or even less! DD6B got presented her medal at the end, and DD6A got pretty upset that she didn't get one. We explained how well she did, though, and I went back over to the results and showed her ALL the 6 years olds she beat. She felt better, but I know it was hard. DD6A has been better at many things this year, though, so it was good for her to see how it feels. Plus, she is more of our long-distance runner anyway (wait for the 10K RR)

The other kids all had fun and did well in their first race. DD6B can't wait to take her medal to school tomorrow!

DD6B going for her 1st place win!

DD6A coming into the finish about to pass another girl

DS running

DS running with Mommy to the finish

My running partner and I with all our kids

DS with his "girlfriend" (my running partner's daughter -- they are 3 weeks apart)

DD6B REALLY proud of her 1st place medal

Sunday -- Capitol 10K (est. 15,000 participants):

Breakfast: coffee and a gel (only because I left my Clif Bar at home!)

Last year's time: 59:50 (9:38 MM) (watch time, I didn't do chip-timed) approx. 159/449 AG
Goal Time: 46:00
Actual Time: 46:42 (9:08 MM) 112/572 AG

We had a group of 10 of us running/walking the 10K this year, including DDs (age 6) and my grandmother (age 84). So, we had 4 generations. I made fluorescent yellow shirts for all of us. On the front, it said "I'm with NANA... and she's faster than your Nana!" On the back, they said different funny sayings like, "If you can read this, an 84 year old is beating you" or "If you can read this, a GIRL is beating you (and she's only 6)" or "RACE OFFICIAL Do not pass", etc... Everyone LOVED the shirts!! It was so easy to find each other too!

Anyway! The weather was very warm and muggy! It was over 70 degrees and about 85% humidity and RAINING!! It was SO gross! My original time goal was 55:00, but when I saw the weather, I changed it because I knew I could only do that time in ideal conditions (sunny, dry, no wind, 45 degrees for me). I thought I'd revise it 1:00. We got there 1 hour before race time, which apparently wasn't enough because parking was tough, then they didn't have enough port-o-potties. I found a discreet place to go elsewhere so I could actually start with the timed people and not with the fun run people. I was with my running partner

So, we started at the back of the timed runners (7:00 after the clock started), which was fine, but we were passing a lot of people. I probably ran an extra .1 mile just dodging runners. I was literally weaving in and out almost the entire race! What's funny is the back of my shirt said, "I know I run like a girl, try to keep up!" I felt really good for 2 miles. Then I got a stitch. I never get stitches! There were so many people that I got separated from my friend, then I found her, then I got the stitch and had to walk. I was kind of bummed, but I thought I could walk a bit and get rid of it and then catch back up. It did go away, and I eventually got back in a groove. At mile 4, I got some water and poured it over my head. That felt good (even though it had rained for some time on and off). About that time, a woman came up behind me and said she loved my shirt. I told her my 84 year old grandmother was doing the race. Then, I told her my twin 6 years old were also doing the race. She said her son (who's 8 ) did the race yesterday and ran about an 8:00 mile. I told her my girls did it too, and one of them placed 1st. She couldn't believe they were running BOTH races! She said she was training for an Oly tri!!! I was so excited. I asked if she was doing CapTex (in May), and she said it would probably have to be the Austin Tri in Sept. I told her that was my first Oly, and it was SO fun. I asked her what her goal for this race was, and she said to beat her time from 11 years ago before she had her son, which was about 10:00/mile. I told her she was for sure beating it because I was going for a 9:00/mile. She said, "Really!!" We ran together for about a mile, then I pulled ahead of her. At mile 5, I was just really running out of gas. I was running as fast as I felt I could go, but when I looked down at the GPS, it said 9:20. I knew if I sped up too much I wouldn't be able to really go fast at the end, so I sped up as much as I could and still have a little left. Well, I had VERY little left! I knew I wasn't going to beat 56:00, but I really wanted to do under 57:00, so I really ran fast near the end. It was almost puking fast, but not quite!

DH finished before all of us and ran back to get the camera. He finished in 48:05 (7:45/mile). He is VERY proud of that time!!

After I finished, I caught up to my friend, who beat me by her usual 30 seconds! Then, I found my girls' teacher (she was ahead of us because she was at the front -- her time was 59:20). We never found her at the beginning, but she was looking for the bright yellow shirt!! We waited for everyone else to finish.

Next, my FIL came in at 1:11:09 pushing DS in the jogger stroller! He has only been running for a little over a month!! He ran an 11:27/mile pushing a jogger on hills!!! WOW!! Then, DD6A came in shortly after with MIL at 1:12:50 (11:44/mile). Then, DD6B with BIL at 1:21:02 (13:03). Then, my mom walking her first 10K. Then, a LONG time later came my grandmother! She might have been the last one, but her neighbor, who is an Ironman, walked it with her!! She did finish and came in 2nd in her AG (only 2 participated) The newspaper interviewed her afterward and asked how many of us there were, then we got a group photo and she got a ride back to her car on a golf cart!

It was SO fun!! So many people commented on the T-shirts. My MIL said a lot of people just couldn't believe our girls running a 10K at age 6! They were passing LOTS of people, too!! DD6A really outdid herself. Their goal time was 1:15, and she beat it (and her sister!) Also, there were no other 6 year olds running the race. I saw one 4 year old at the very bottom of the results, but all the other kids were older than 6. Oh, there was a 1 year old who finished 14th, but I'm sure she was in a stroller! LOL I took her off the results.

So, here is the rundown:
DH 48:05 (7:44) 79/534 AG 579/3556 M
Me 56:42 (9:08 ) 112/572 AG 649/2972 F
FIL 1:11:09 (11:27) 154/193 AG 3011/3556 M (First 10K!)
DD/MIL 1:12:50 (11:44) 23/40 AG (12 and under, and she's 6)
DD/BIL 1:21:02 (13:03) 28/40 AG (12 and under)
Mom 1:44:39 (16:51) 82/85 AG (First 10K, walking)
Nana 2:26:51 (23:39) 2/2 AG -- 84 years old walking First 10K! (there was only one woman older - 86, and she has done it for many years)

FIL finishing with determination

DD6A coming into her fast finish (too bad she blinked!) with MIL

DD6B finishing with BIL

Two proud girls!

My grandmother finishing with her neighbor (the Ironman!)

She hitched a ride back to the car!

No pictures of me!! We did get a group photo taken by the photographer, but they aren't out yet. We also got one on FIL's camera at the restaurant afterwards, but he hasn't sent it to me yet.

Congrats to all the Chilipeppers, great job on the hardware for your DD! I haven't had a chance to read the whole report as I'm about to head into a meeting, but from the pictures it looks like you had a lot of fun ~ Great job motivating everyone to get out there!

How fun is that!! What a great day for all of you! Your girls are adorable in their little running skirts, and the yellow shirts are great too. I bet your grandma had the time of her life doing a race with everyone! That's just seriously cool!

Congrats to all the Chilipeppers! Your girls are cute and ran very well. You ran well too, but how did it feel to have your 6 year old run a faster pace than you? LOL! It was cool to see your entire family get involved, and the t-shirts were great! WTG!

The Kelli Family rocks!!
Great report! Sounds like the DDs are as competitive as their mom. Just look at the "Olympics finals" face on DD6B, while the other guy seems to be dying.
Maybe something to do with the genes. But since they're twins, weren't they supposed to be able to run the same speed?
As for you Kelli, lots of maths skills required, because only the min/mile are accurate, the others are 46, then 27, then...

We did have a VERY fun time! Everyone got a kick out of the shirts. The shirts really made it more fun.

Now, that was only 1 mile! I have run 1 mile in 7:37, so I know I'm faster than her. There will come a day when she is faster, though!

Yeah, I love that photo of her passing that boy who looks like he is about to fall over. Did you also notice the hand on the hip? Yes, they have the same genes, but not exactly. Their personalities are so different, so they have different strengths and weaknesses.
I don't understand the 46, 27 bit. You lost me!

Yes, my girls have running skirts, and they love them! Just like their mommy!

Well... in the beginning of the 10k report:
"Goal Time: 46:00
Actual Time: 46:42 (9:08 MM)"

And later:
"I knew I wasn't going to beat 26:00, but I really wanted to do under 27:00, so I really ran fast near the end."

And finally:
"she was ahead of us because she was at the front -- her time was 59:20"

O.K. Oops!! The 26:00 and 27:00 of course should have been 56:00 and 57:00. I'll correct that!

The part where I said she was ahead of us was actually true because she started at the front of the timed runners and we started at the back (7:00 later). So, she ran slower, but she still finished first. Make sense now? Sorry! It was late and it took me two days to type it up because I kept getting interrupted!
