I ran my first 10k this weekend! It was the 30th annual Crescent City Classic held in the great town of New Orleans. It was a huge event with 17,500 participants. This race is rated the second best 10k road race in the world b/c the route is flat and fast. World records have been set in the past at this race. The Kenyans were there and the first place finishers time was 27:43. But thats not the only reason why this race is famous. It also draws a crazy crowd typical for New Orleans. I saw so many costumes and was entertained the entire distance. I saw people dressed like chickens, tomatoes, bulls, Easter bunnies, and so many more. Along the route, spectators passed out beer, jello shots, wine, mimosas and hot dogs. I think they really don't want people to finish the race! I ran along side four of my good friends. We all stayed together, running a comfortable 10 min pace and finished in 1:02. The weather was absolutely beautiful!! Sixty degrees, sunny, clear and no wind. The route was also beautiful with the oak trees and azaleas in bloom, a perfect Easter weekend! At the finish was a festival with free beer, jambalaya and music by Cowboy Mouth. For more post race relaxation, my friends and I grabbed more beers and hung out at the hotel pool. There we met one of the elite runners, George Misoi from Kenya. He finished fourth with a time of 27:48. That's amazing!! He must have felt like he was playing 20 questions b/c we asked him about everything from his training to how many marathons he runs in a year. Those guys are incredible! Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that Jarod from Subway was at the expo. All in all, I had a great weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the race. It's one I hope to do again in the future.

Hey!! I think my dad ran that race!! He just moved to New Orleans about a month ago and said he was running it. I'm glad you enjoyed it!! We have a very similar race with all the costumes and such. It is next weekend, and our whole family is running it! It isn't flat because it is Austin, but it isn't all THAT bad. Fastest time is 29:42. The costumes are the best. Last year, there was an outhouse, a guitar, a newspaper, and other crazy thing like that. (Our motto is Keep Austin Weird) I don't know how people run with those costumes on, but I saw them because they were passing me, not vice versa. This will be the 31st annual Capitol 10,000. It is HUGE! It varies from year to year depending on the weather, but it is usually around 20,000 participants. It is the largest 10K in Texas. Last year was the 30th anniversary, and their goals was 30,000 participants, but they didn't even get close because the weather wasn't great.

Great job! Sounds like a hoot of a 10K. I have yet to run a standalone 10K. This year.

I felt great about my race! I set out to do around a 10 min pace. So it worked out perfectly that I was able to do that with my friends with me. Which they are all really good runners so I felt an accomplishment to keep up with them. I kept worrying that I was slowing them down but they assured me I wasn't.

What's next for me is a beginners tri on April 12th. I'm very nervous about the swim but I enrolled in a class so will definitely help out.

Way to go Lil Sis! Have I told you how proud that I am of you? Sure I have, but I'll say it again - I'm proud of you!!
I'm glad that all of you had a good time. I can't wait to see the pics.
I'll have to go do this race next year, if it's not too close to New Orleans 70.3

Hey Kyle, don't tell lil sis just yet, but remember when we were saying a few months ago that she's gonna get hooked? Well, she's getting hooked!

Rock on, lil sis! And always remember to keep it fun just like you did, because that's what it's all about.
