I ran my first 10k this weekend! It was the 30th annual Crescent City Classic held in the great town of New Orleans. It was a huge event with 17,500 participants. This race is rated the second best 10k road race in the world b/c the route is flat and fast. World records have been set in the past at this race. The Kenyans were there and the first place finishers time was 27:43. But thats not the only reason why this race is famous. It also draws a crazy crowd typical for New Orleans. I saw so many costumes and was entertained the entire distance. I saw people dressed like chickens, tomatoes, bulls, Easter bunnies, and so many more. Along the route, spectators passed out beer, jello shots, wine, mimosas and hot dogs. I think they really don't want people to finish the race! I ran along side four of my good friends. We all stayed together, running a comfortable 10 min pace and finished in 1:02. The weather was absolutely beautiful!! Sixty degrees, sunny, clear and no wind. The route was also beautiful with the oak trees and azaleas in bloom, a perfect Easter weekend! At the finish was a festival with free beer, jambalaya and music by Cowboy Mouth. For more post race relaxation, my friends and I grabbed more beers and hung out at the hotel pool. There we met one of the elite runners, George Misoi from Kenya. He finished fourth with a time of 27:48. That's amazing!! He must have felt like he was playing 20 questions b/c we asked him about everything from his training to how many marathons he runs in a year. Those guys are incredible! Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that Jarod from Subway was at the expo. All in all, I had a great weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the race. It's one I hope to do again in the future.
