Race Venue : FAROLA AREA, MAMBAJAO, ISLAND OF CAMIGUIN, PHILIPPINES
Race Date: February 23, 2008

Splits: 23.56/1:28:03/1:01:33 – 2:53:32
Results: 23/40 (including elite/Relay/Age groups M/F) overall, 4/5 age group

As mentioned in one of my previous post, my first Oly of the season was this weekend. The race venue was at the island of Camiguin, a small island in the middle of the archipelago of the Philippines: a tropical paradise with white beaches, forests of coconut trees and seven massive active volcanoes!
There were not many contestants for this race, as the venue was somehow difficult to reach (6 hours from Manila) and many local and regional athletes opted for other races like Ironman Malaysia or the Manila Marathon.
The swimming leg was odd, due to the tough conditions of the sea and of the tide and the 4 loops seemed way too short (as my swim split will suggest). For the bike leg, I was again disappointed with my timing but just can blame myself and train harder. I had fun on the run. The trail was very technical and very hilly so I am satisfied with my time, considering also that, according to my Garmin, the run was over 11kms. Compared to my last year Oly, I improved my PR of 2 minutes, so I take it and I’m happy with it.
Will keep you posted on my Du in 2 weeks time and my BIG transition from the Philippines to the US.
Happy and safe training to everyone!
