G'morning, all.

I'm heading back to work for the first time after the whole tooth-saga. Frankly, I'd rather spend another day in/out of sleep on the couch while answering emails from my laptop, but there is some stuff that just must be taken care of at the office. Ahh well. At least I have a job that afforded the luxury of working from home so far this week.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ to all those in rough patches }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Seems we have a longer list than usual, so as to not leave anyone out, I offer group hugs today.

Hey guys, I need to catch up but it sounds like hugs are needed for many (((((())))))).

So I am finally feeling settled in the new job and I still love it as much as I did in the beginning. Now that I'm all squared away I hope to be able to be on here more often to cath up on all that is going on with my lovely 30s crew.

I don't have anything fun planned today, unless you consider getting tons of laundry done in between working fun. To each his own if you do.

Evelyn had a bit of a rough sleep last night. I think having needles in all her arms and legs might have had something to do with that, though. Poor chicky. At least she seemed in good spirits today.

Fun...umm...it's thursday. Which means only one more day til the weekend. It's also garbage day. And blue bag day. And since I missed the last two weeks, I was glad to get everything out of my basement.

QOD: What is the top gadget used in your kitchen? I was tidying the storage space we have for ours the other day and thought, "Geez...I hardly ever use this but it's good to have it when it's needed." DH makes coffee every day so that'd be his top gadget. I use the waffle/sandwich maker most. Next most used would be my steamer and hand mixer. But my tea kettle and blender, hardly ever used. Same with the George Forman, although DH uses it daily when he goes through his Atkins phase.

Good morning!

Day 8 of not being able to eat normally, but I feel like I've turned the corner. See, in addition to the strep which is mostly gone now, I developed some bad sores in my mouth so I've had to stay on a soft food diet. It's hard to eat enough, so it's like I've been on a crash diet (hope I don't rebound too much once I can eat properly again). Those sores are still there but finally this morning the pain from them is noticeably less. Here's hoping that trend continues, I'm actually getting tired of ice cream, soup, and yogurt. On the other hand, I've allowed myself to have some frozen sugary coffee concoctions that I never usually have, so that is tasty.

QOD: I use my convection toaster oven all the time. It's perfect for a single gal, I use my big oven only a few times a year now. I also like my microwave rice cooker from Pampered Chef.

Morning all

Missy My niece is fine, she's not a great sleeper either but not to the extent of AK. Baby Paige is also on acid reflux stuff and my brother said that when she gets really cranky they let her sleep in the car seat because the angle of the seat is high enough that the acid stays down. That's what their Dr recomended so that's what they are doing. They also just started her on some rice cereal and she's been much better. Hopefully AK starts sleeping soon I can't even imagine how you guys are functioning right now.

The guy is fine also, things are going fantastic in that department so hopefully it stays that way!

I got my replacement phone all hooked up and going this morning and the nice lady at US Cellular put me on a different plan that cuts my bill by $35 and still gives me everything that I had before. Such a nice lady

QOD Probably my french press. I use it for tea. But I did get the Ninja for Christmas so I'm guessing that will replace the French press in funness.

Aw, Wippy...that makes me so happy for you.

Glad you're feeling better, Kris and Ailarie.

Missy, I didn't end up going to tap. I got home a little later than I'd hoped and DxH stopped by to drop something off, and then my tap shoes weren't where I'd thought they were. By then, I only had 10 mins to change and get there (and still find my shoes), so I skipped it. But I'm hoping to go next week.

I'm thinking about buying a new couch. I have the couch from my marriage and it's really faded and tired (although in such good condition, structurally, it's a shame that it would probably cost me MORE to reupholster it than get the same one again new.) I just don't know if I really want/can afford to spend the money right now. It sucks that I make so much less than I used to. Basically what I don't make anymore would cover my whole rent. Sigh.

oh. I forgot the QOD.

QOD: my espresso maker gets a lot of use now that I bring my own lattes with me to work. Funny thing is, I don't think I'd used it a dozen times in the 16 years I'd had it before then. (It was a wedding gift.)

And my toaster over. I use it constantly.

Morning! I woke up at 5 and couldn't fall back asleep. Finally gave up at 6 and got up and hopped on the tm and showered and shoveled the drive and played with the boys and and and.

It's not an allergy at all. It's auto-immune disease that attacks my large intestine. All grains, sugar & sugar substitutes are triggers. And they're in everything. I also have lactose issues, so can only eat certain hard cheeses and yogurt that I make that has fermented for 24 hours. And I don't eat soy. Or starchy veggies like potatoes. And probably some other stuff I can't think of off the top of my head.

But the difference is mind boggling. Once we figured out that food was a trigger and I changed my diet, 5 days in it was like *snap* someone flipped a switch and my gut stopped it's year long flair. I still had tons of ulcers that needed to heal, but changing how I ate made my immune system stop attacking and allowed that to happen.

So yah, we cook basically EVERYTHING from scratch. Luckily, Dh and I both cooked a lot anyway, and choose to look at it more as an adventure, and an excuse to experiment.

Speaking of health stuff. Just got off the phone with Sisterleenie. Momoleenie had a doc appmt yesterday and was switched to a walking boot. Which is great, right? But also found out that she has to wear it for a year. She just doe NOT want to put that kind of time in. Which, yah, it's inconvenient, but it's not the end of the world. She doesn't have to use the scooter any more, and could theoretically get out of the house by herself, which she hasn't been able to do in 4 months. She doesn't need my dad to escort her around. So that's good progress, right?!?

I don't think she has any idea how sick I really was 7-10 years ago. I'm debating sending her an email talking about how it took me 5 years of concentrated effort to get my gut under control. Not sure how that will go over. It's just hard to watch her..... give up and accept limitations when there are simple things she could do to improve her situation. She used to be SO active.

Kath, it's so hard to see where our parents are, now that they are older. My mother, at 64, is like a little old woman, because of the last 8+ years of treatment and disease. The worst part is she HATES that she doesn't have the energy or even physical capacity to be more active. It's one of the reasons she's so grumpy much of the time.

I think sending an email or letter/card to her would be a great idea. Hearing "1 YEAR" and understanding the day to day are two different deals, I'm sure at least something you could share with her will help and hopefully bring her to a place where she'll stay committed to healing properly.

Hi all - with my dad away, there's no one to cook at my parents' house (well, my mom can cook, but there's no time to cook really by the time she gets home), so one of my older nieces ended up testing out her cooking skills. Worked out well - she whipped out a pretty good lasagna.

Whipped my own brussels sprouts a couple days ago that was pretty darn delish - sauteed some garlic, then threw in the sprouts (cut in half) to fry them up a little bit. Right before the end, I squeezed a whole lemon in there and until it evaporated away, added some salt & pepper, and voila.

(((((30s group hugs))))) Sounds like we all could use some good mojo in one manner or another

Wippy - great to hear things are going so well for you and the guy

QOD - well, other than the usuals (microwave, toaster), I use this thing a lot (which will remain the case until I can afford a good espresso maker)

Colleen, we had the same thing. Missed it before the holidays because DH had strep (he puts it out) and then missed it again the week after. Then I spent Monday doing a major clean out of closets, etc and had 3 lawn size bags of additional junk. We put out a ton of garbage this week, didn't think they would pick it up but they did.

Parents can be frustrating when it comes to their health. My father-in-law was admitted to the hospital the Wednesday before Christmas (he was up here visiting) because of level 10 stomach pain (he's had pancreantitis before). They see that his pancreas is acting up and his gallbladder is enlarged plus his kidneys have a cyst or tumor. They put him on an IV and then clear liquids and he stops getting pain/sick so he convinces them to release him and then drives 13 hours back to Hilton Head. First time he eats solids on the trip he's violently sick and throwing up, so he takes 3 of his wife's morphine pills (for her back) and now says he's fine. My mom is another one. She had colon cancer when she was 55, had over a foot of her colon resected and now doesn't feel like getting her scheduled colonoscopy (already a year late) because she didn't like the anesthesia last time....ummm...tell them you need a different one...duh. You would think after the surgery and recovery she had last time she would want to do everything she could to avoid it again.

Morning, everyone. Still dealing with painful swallowing. I have a call into the doctor's office to see if I should go in. I desperately need to take a shower, but I don't want to be in the shower when the nurse calls and end up playing phone tag all day with the office. However, I called about an hour and a half ago, so I'll give it another half and hour and then I'll call back. I should be at my office, but I'm miserable enough that I know I wouldn't get anything done, though I'm certainly not Bard-level sick (((((Bard))))) so I should just probably suck it up. I don't get sick very often, so I'm pretty crazy when I do get sick.

morning all,

(((group hug))) to those who need them. There's lots of stuff going on.

In the fun/not fun category: When we got home from our two week trip on Monday, DW put the first of many loads into the washer and it promptly spit most of it's water into the kitchen floor. I managed to clean it all up and get the rest of the water down the drain pipe. So, yesterday, we dropped $2,200 for a new Samsung set. It's being delivered tomorrow.

fun/not fun: before our trip DW was sick. it got cold, so I put a brand new winter coat on DS and sent him to school. He didn't come home with it. So I asked him where it was, he left it at school. So, on the way out of town, we swing by the school. DW goes in and can't find the coat anywhere. I'm pissed. Brand new coat worn one time gone. I hadn't written his name into it. I stewed over that for the first 150 miles of our trip. Two days ago, DS brings home two coats (in addition to the one he wore that day) and said, I got these from the lost and found, which one is mine? Yeah, the new coat was found. I promptly wrote his name in it. Issue resovled.

Morning all-

missy - although not as involved, DD had a lot of dietary issues that lead to irritablility\lack of sleep. We went from breast (which was a disaster and one of the worst experiences we ever had) to formula (which we learned DD had an intolerance too) to soy. And even that was bad. I used to travel with a change of clothes (for me, not just her) because she would barf on me constantly.

katholeenie - my mom would complain about her conditions constantly, but then do NO follow up therapy after procedures, etc. Example: She had surgery on one of her feet to help alleviate some of the arthritis issues she had. I asked my Dad if she ahd any follow up therapy, etc. He said that after two days, she was supposed to do a couple of exercises 2-3 times a day. She did them once. Thankfully, my Dad takes very good care of himself.

QOD - we have an electric kettle that is used for tea, hot cocoa, instant soups constantly.
