morning goon! gooooooooooooo!!! i have an easy 4 on the docket, but dunno. i may need rest today--i haven't had one in about 10 days.

btw, BigG turned me on to chia seeds which is now my recovery drink of choice. the texture can be like kiwi fruit which is odd, but it does give me energy.

i've also been starting the p90x bandwagon for about a week now, and although not daily, like it more than insanity, and probably more of what i need. i am SORE, however. i loved the yoga dvd--i felt like it got all those little places i've been missing. i'm SO not bendable anymore. hah!

have a great day, everyone. not as hot here...hope it's pretty summer where you are.

Greetings, all.

Oof.. I got up and intended on getting 5M in before the work-day started. I underestimated the effect of 2 days of reduced calories. I barely made it 3. Granted 3 is better than 0, but man that was hard! I'm slightly afraid of what's going to happen Saturday for my LR! eep!

Gonna be hot here today. So hot that I didn't even bother bringing the Garmin for an outdoor run. I reckon I'll just wuss out and hit the TM at the gym after work. Even if it is for an hour or more. We'll see...

Oh last night I just signed up for the 5k at the airport that I do every Summer. This'll be the 6th year in a row for me at this race. Between this and the New Haven Labor Day race, these are where I do my streaking, I guess...

5 miles run and done. I stood under the sprinkler when I got home, took a long cool shower and I'm still sweating. 73 and sunny with 73% humidity at 6 AM? At least the high today is only supposed to be 82, with a low of 49?? jeez.

I had my chia seed drink pre run. me likey.

good morning!

Good job to the morning crew. My morning action is a 45min bus ride to work... better than the cost of gas.

I wussed out yesterday - and it is going to be hotter today - so I'll likely head indoors for a ride.

Good morning!

I ran just a tad over 6 this morning. It was already 80 degrees and supah humid. Ouch. I am WAY out of shape after slacking the last 6 weeks. I am not going to start training until after my big trial is over (it is all next week), but I do need to fit it in. I am so much more tired during the day when I am not running.

Hope you are all fabulous.

Lots of morning action already today. I like it!

I got 8 easy miles done. Saw 5 big ugly snapping turtles on my run. This time of year there are always tons of them in our neighborhood and on the trail I run on.

Good runs to all today!

Hi all - well, fitness was a no-go yesterday. I picked up my dad from the hospital from his procedure and took him home. I later got hit with the sleepies myself and crashed out for three hours or so. Problem with that nap was that it screwed up my regular sleep, so I'm functioning on about 5 hours right now - bleh

BigG - loved that burst of energy from your first post today

Yesterday's QOD, I forgot to mention the beginning of a race that never survived beyond its first year - we had a 10K in SF to honor those that had fallen on 09/11 in 2005. Besides being a perfect sunrise rising over the horizon along the Embarcadero near the Bay Bridge (around where the SF Marathon starts, though in that race, it's too dark when the race starts to see much of anything), we had a fire boat perform an water spray just offshore (with the Bay Bridge as a backdrop) and had some relatives of those that had died on Flight 93 speak beforehand.

Chia Fresca:

1 Tablespoon chia seeds

10 ounces filtered water

I put these in a Bell jar and shake. Let rest 5 minutes. Shake again. Let sit as long as you like, the longer it sits the more gel like it gets. I've made mine the night before and stuck it in the fridge.

Then add to taste:

Honey

Fresh lime juice

Shake again.

Drink!

I got big girl pedals on my bike yesterday. You can read the detailed version here, but the short version is I fell on my first attempt to clip out outside.

Got out this morning for 30 fall-free minutes on the bike. I'll run later today in the 95* heat, and then take my nephew to the group run for a short mile or so. His idea. He really wants to go! Cool!

5.5 miles. Had to walk/run the last two because I waited too long to leave the house...dealing with some family medical issues (PSA - take care of yourselves now so that your children/loved ones won't have to make really hard decisions for you in your later years) that kept me busy. By the time I made it out 88F, 50% humidity for a heat index of 91. Spent about 20 minutes in the basement afterwards cooling down - it's the coolest room in the house.

Nice runs so far today...and nice job not falling Lora!

I got my chia seeds at my local Good Food Co-op. But you can also get them online - like here.

Ran 6 miles this afternoon in the 97* heat. Ugh. Then I picked up my nephew and we did 1.2 miles at the group run. He's doing ok, but the heat, coupled with his awful breathing/asthma/allergy issues, and his need to take a pit stop to pee made it a very stop/start type of run. Super proud of him, though, and really hope he likes it enough to keep at it!

We cooled off in the store for a minute and then went to get slushies

So, I kinda got my but kicked a little bit yesterday. I met up with a friend of mine from when I lived in Texas (the last time we saw each other was 10th grade). He runs a running club and training group. It's a cross fit for runners kind of program. So, I joined them last night for their track workout. The workout was 4 - 6 x 1000m at 5K pace. In between each interval you had to do 20 pushups and 20 squats or lunges. Well my little spaghetti arms are not used to the push ups, but there was no was I wasn't doing them in front of all those people. My arms are trashed, and there's some muscles in my legs that are sore too from the squats. I probably need to incorporate more of that type of work going forward. Oh, and it was 95 degrees.

I flew home tonight and then went for a slowish run around my hood. Planned on 6 miles, had to cut it short when a blustery rain storm blew up. Had it just been raining, I would've finished the last mile, but the wind was crazy. Ended up with 5.1 miles.
