I used to be a runner? I can barely do it - The last few years, as I have grown older dis-gracefully, my running has gone backwards - And that's being polite. Well, I recently endured a bad case of gout, and as a new healthier diet is ensuing, and I need to get rid of the excess pounds that has been a sign of my decline - what better way than to re-connect with the running world, and my old stomping ground here at Kick! So, hello to old friends, and new friends alike. not sure if too many can remember my days as a runner, but I fondly remember meeting a lot of bright-eyed Kicksters back in Chicago in the last months of the old millenium. Those Kicksters porobably qualify as masters these days - I certainly do, so maybe there are a few around - if not - Well, lets hope I can make new friends in the process. http://irishrunaholic.blogspot.com/

Don't know if you've been lurking, but it's been sort of quiet here in Kickmasters land of late!

But those of us who are left are always glad to see new/old face in the mix.

Some of us are disgracefully old, but are steadfastly refusing to grow up!

Welcome back, friend.

Let us know how you're progressing.

Good to see a few faces I recall (well, OK, names at least....)... Guess age catches up with us all eventually, but..... I still think I have one more decent Race in me (Or do we all think that?)

I'll try and get positive and back to being regular, as soon as my running gets beyond the 11 minute mark ;)... Hopefully soon....

I also have had my issues with gout and this season has been the worst, I've had it 3 times since last December. Previously it was once a year either in December or January. My issue seems to be more genetic that dietary and I am now considering medications for prevention but will probably try the cherry extract remedy first.

I have still been running but not as regularly since last September between 5 and 20 miles per week at a much slower pace than previously so running is down and weight is up.

Pat - I remember you well from Philly....

Yep, gout is that awful genetic/dietary problem. To the best of my knowledge mine isn't genetic, as I don't recall my father, (mother certainly didn't), suffering from it. I'm almost certain that my move to South America has been the root cause, given the propensity of red meat and red wine that has ensued. With beer reduced to a mere sample once a week, no red wine, and all the other re-balacing of my diet, I am hopeful. Sorry to hear you have been suffering too -

I'm hoping I can get back running, slowly but surely - and get my weight down from the dizzy heights it has been in recent months. I'll follow your path to a Gout Free future too ;)
