Ok, I missed my POTD day, so I'm taking over sunday!

Thanks in advance for reading.

1. Why do you run?

I run because I can. I know people who can't run and would probably give their left arm to be able to. I feel some perverse obligation to these people to do what I can simply because I can.

I run because it's damn near the only way to shut my brain down. When I run, I stop thinking so much (too much even), I stop calculating, I stop worrying, I stop angsting, I stop being angry, my mind clears. I can just be.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment?

I don't really know. Paying my way through undergrad comes to mind. Of course, if I was half as smart as I think I am, I'd have picked a cheaper school. Getting my graduate degree while working 12 hours a day, also comes to mind.

Athletically, I'm pretty proud of coming in 9th or 10th (that's right, I'm so proud that I can't remember the exact place) in Vault at Regionals. Regionals = region of country = 5 or 6 states represented. Winning Vault at districts while competing with a broken ankle also comes to mind. I also remember getting my first 9.0. That was a big day. Those three medals are all in my night stand. I'd have to think for a while to remember where the rest of them are.

I'd like to take credit for raising a happy, well behaved kid, but I'm not sure that credit belongs to me.

3. What is your motto/theme song?

I don't have a theme song. I think my motto can be summed up as, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." I'm a weird person. When I start to hurt, I push harder. Even when pushing harder is a bad idea.

4. How do you deal with bad runs?

I don't really have bad runs. Any run is a good run, even the ones that suck.

5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?

I don't really reward myself for good runs. Occasionally I'll come here to brag about a good run to kind of share the experience. But that's about it.

6. Who do you admire most?

I admire a lot of things about a lot of people. No one person stands out.

Karen for her strength
My grandfather for his mechanical ability
Various athletes for their ability/perserverence
Tracy for her ability to relate to children
Tonya for being brave enough to chase her dreams

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?

All feelings are true.
Don't confuse opinion with fact.

8. What do wish you had learned younger?

To have some confidence in myself. I still struggle in a lot of areas, but I'm working on it.

9. What do you wish you could do but can't?

I wish I was better at making friends. I don't open up to people very well and I feel like I'm probably missing out on a lot of good from others as a result.

10. How would your friends describe your personality?

Loyal, funny, quirky, quiet, hyper, sarcastic.

11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?

Clothes. I don't really have a favorite outfit.

12. What has been your favorite race?

I won my age group at a little 5k in the town my in-laws are from. My in-laws are all very Small Town and Small Town Minded. So, they don't consider me an athlete because they never knew what gymnastics was, therefore it couldn't be a sport. Beating the pants off of all of them - including the BIL who was Mr. Uber Runner - was fun.

13. Do you have a goal race right now?

I'm planning on doing the Wendy's International Triathlon in 2009. I need to buy a bike. And learn how to swim. But, really, I feel ready!

14. What makes you happy?

Little things.

Being outside
The sun shining in my face
Going for a run
Smell of rain
Being able to sit down at the end of the day and feel like I've accomplished something.
Solving a problem
Helping a friend
A good book
A good glass of wine
A fire (in a fireplace)
DS running up and giving me a hug

15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.

The downpayment on my first house was money I'd earned modeling when I was younger.

16.
