Redwood Visit 2008

One of my ten 2008 goals is to run in the redwoods. 
Looks like August is my best time, because of a Marathon in July, DW birthday, early Aug,,, etc. 
After weighing the cheapest flight and drive verses the closest flight and no driving, I'm going to go with the no drive option. It's less than 25 miles to the campground. Redwoods 2008 I-tentative-arary Tuesday 8/12/08....Leave TRI @ 6 am arrive in Cresent City, CA @ 6:35 pm Wed.....................Camp in Del Norte S.P. Thur......................Camp in Prairie Creek S.P Fri........................Camp in Prairie Creek S.P Sat.......................Camp in Prairie Creek S.P Sun......................Camp in Prairie Creek S.P Mon......................Camp in Del Norte S.P. Tuesday 8/19/08....Leave Cresent City, CA @ 12:35 PM I'll be camping, running, photgraphing, and playing in the woods all week out of a backpack. If anybody likes to do that, company is welcome. And advice from the locals also quiet welcome. jjj

JJJ- 
I've been hiding in a corner lately, licking my wounds, so to speak, but this was good enough to bring me out of lurkdom. My plans for August revolve around Mrs. Johnny's Family Reunion down in LaLa land. Originally it was scheduled for the first of the month, but lately there's been some talk about changing it to the middle of August. 
At any rate, I will put this in my schedule, and definately make some time to get down there, even for only a day or two. Hopefully I'll be able to run by then, but at the way things are not progressing <img alt="sad.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/sad.gif">, maybe just hangin out will have to do. 
I was not aware that Crescent City even had an airport. They must have only one flight in and one flight out via SFO each day. If your plans aren't firm, Eugene is a 4 hour drive, Medford is a 3 hour drive, and Eureka about an hour drive. Temps in August in the Redwoods, 40's at night, maybe 60's during the day. Drive 10-20 miles inland, temps go up to 100 or higher. 
Several cool trails begin just behind the info station at Prairie Creek Campground, about 1/4 mile from the CG. 
Do I need a kilt to be able to run with you??

Sounds like a great vacation JJJ!! I haven't made my plans for August yet, although there might be a trip to Seattle in there somewhere. As the date approaches I know there will more talk about possibly getting to meet up for a run. Maybe I'll head down there and so some photography as well. The two times I've been there have been for races, so would love to do a bit of hiking and find some out of the way places to capture some good photos. I saw in this month's RW, the Rave Run spot is Fern Valley near Crescent City. That's a spot I've never seen before but looks very cool.

4 legs each way, overnite in one airport, overnight flight coming back 
I'll be at LAX for 6hrs, I could manage a good training run 
from puddle to puddle for 600 bucks US

Yeah, I'm gonna try to get down to Frozen Head S.P. and do some exploring. 
I'm sure they're love it.

My roadtrip to SF with DS has been postponed from this week to August...hmmm. However, looks like we'll be in the Mt. Shasta area, not over by the coast. I'll continue to look at dates & places -- a meet-up would be great!

Hi JJJ, sorry you can't make it to L.A. but LAX is a real drag. 
We will meet someday, as I need to make a trek back to the East Coast and visit family in North Carolina (Charlotte area) sometime in '09. Maybe Thunder Road Marathon '09? Or is there anything near Asheville, since I heard that Biltmore Mansion is worth a look...my DH is from VA so we don't mind visiting that area either, if you have race suggestions.

when I saw them in the early 60's I wasn't a runner, 
but would have LOVED to run there...... 
I actually wanted to be a Surfer then.
