I think maybe we should try an ultra/trail running forum here. The active forums, although they are just in beta, look like crap and are confusing. I wonder if we start an ultra forum here if we can sneak out all the ultra and trail runners from CR like the 30 somethings.

A couple days ago, I put out a feeler message to a few of our ultrarunners (meri, hippo, durt, dg1, Hi Everybody):

I inquired if there would be an interest in starting an Ultra thread in the "running club" forum. The response was primarily positive -- it was stated that this would be a thread that would be frequented by the small group that I polled.

Now seeing the pending migration of CR, I can see a need for a forum (as Meri suggests.)

While I was debating wether or not to put my proposed ultra thread in one of two existing forums ("Running Clubs," or "The Race", I could see myself supporting a stand-alone "Ultrarunning or Trailrunning" forum.

i'd moderate in addition to the nutritional one if you want. Nutritional forum is pretty darn easy to moderate

I originally said no, but now with the whole Active beta crap, i reconsidered and decided it would be worth a try. If in a few months it is dormant, then we can always merge it into the running clubs or something.

If we did ultra/trail combo forum, i bet we can get a migration.

I'll help out, where ever needed.

It seems like a couple CR forums ("boomers" and "ultra and trail running" will be seeking refuge and a final resting spot.

The Ultra/Trailrunning forum at CR is a diverse group. A good mix of talented runners, middle-of-the-pack, and newbies. Lots of assistance and camraderie there.

ever since it went from ultra forum to ultra & trail, i think it has really become very active and enjoyable group of people. For the most part. The person who used to follow me around and beat me down no longer posts very much, luckily

I agree - We need to look at specific fora again, and try and mop up those who are looking pensively at the Active set up - before people diversify away into the ether of cyberspace. I think we already have a willing Moderator for the Boomers type Forum - Suggest that we call it Masters rather than Boomers, as the CR mod from Boomers is actively encouraging people to come here.

So, I would support Individual Fora for Masters - Ultras, and Yes, even the 30's as they are monopolising the Running Clubs site with lots of threads.

All this is based on the proviso that this won't overstretch the service will it?

One of the trail/ultra runners just posted something about the active move so i think getting this up and running sooner than later may be good. Use that as a catalyst to start to convert people

Ok.. set up, but done so rather quickly! May need to tweak the description - I think grammatically it is 'eh'.. so when I get a chance, I'll work on it - and of course, input is always welcome!

Thanks Meri for stepping up - I'd like you to recruit a replacement for your other forum; however. I'd rather only one forum per moderator. (except sierra - cause she's a glutton for punishment and likes me to load her up!)

Best,

SMILE!!!

Go find one and then let me know who you got!

No hurry - just talk to some of your regular contributers in your forum and see if you can find one that YOU feel comfortable with and one that you feel would work well in our environment. If you would like assistance, just ask and the rest of the mods will be happy to help 'recruit'...

thanks

Hi guys. Sorry, I had one evening to enjoy time with my husband, cook food for him for 4 days, score VRAA points, make an entry for the Iron Chef competition, and pack for tomorrow.

You may want a back-up or two in case Leigh (Buxtehude) isn't comfortable with the moderator position. I think she'd be great at it, but she may or may not love the spotlight it can put on. Hopefully she will say yes.

If Aimee (Luckylily) had the time, I think she'd be another good moderator possibility for the food forum.

I would say Lily (aimee) but with her pregnancy and the coming of twins, it may not be the best addition to her already busy life. Waiting to hear back from Bux on my PM

Rich-

I'm not sure the title of the forum, "Extreme Running," hits the mark. For one, trail running, in and of itself, is not extreme. IMO, the foundation of this forum is anchored with its ultrarunners. The forum title should reflect as much.

I recognize your desire not to imitate directly from CR forum titles, but there is no license, at least from CR, on the title "Ultra and Trail Running."

I believe that "Ultra and Trail Running" is a better forum title and recommend a change to this end.

Thanks,
I Agree completely Lloyd! I wanted to get it up as quickly as I could, but we need a better title. However, I'd really like something that fits the overall theme of our forum titles. And "Ultra and Trail Running" doesn't do it. See if you guys can come up with some - Merigayle, perhaps a contest in your forum for a new name????

Thanks
