Good morning McSolar. How are the miles treating you this week? Rain in Arizona? no way!

Great speed work for our snow queen last night.

Thinking for Ben and Econo. Any new update?

Ribs, how is the time with the Rib boys going? It must be so nice to have them home.

Hally, a butterfly hug for you....just because.

FF, how is the now your way? We sure have our share around here. Looking forward to skiing this weekend.

Great weather for running. I wish I had more time for more miles. I was a little sad that I had to leave my playground and come back home. 5 miles total.

Hi Solarman and Posilina!!

What happened.... did you book telescope time today, MC?

Love running in fluffy fat snow... everything is so gorgeous, clean and quiet.

I think I'll ditch today's run in favour of a bit of core work in the gym later, before I leave early this afternoon. Not much happening at work, as just about everyone is off on holidays. You could fire a cannon thru here! I'm taking tomorrow off as well, so will shift my next run to then.

Have a lovely day everyone!!!

Hi mc, mari, and Heme!

mc you're chewing up these miles. Looking good.

Nice run, mari. fluffy snow is the best. I like the quiet a new snowfall brings.

Heme, I'm with you. Did an hour of core work and lower body resistance training. Going long tomorrow.

Yes, that sounded like a good workout on a tight track, Erica.

We're having the company Christmas luncheon right now. Only a few Serious People are actually working at their 'puters. I'm about to head out for the rest of the week.

Reporting in with a 3-mile (or so; we weren't counting laps) jog with my track buddies this morning.

Ben is still on life support, having caught pretty much every virulent bug that lurks in hospitals. Hoping for a turnaround today or tomorrow. I was hoping for a turnaround at the solstice, as the symbolism would be great, but that was a particularly bleak day.

I did the same workout as Monday, grass XC track for 2 miles, back into the Y for weight circuit training, then back out on what is a blustery day but I was totally content to be outside before a cold rain comes in this week. Of course, I had on all my new fancy Brooks stuff and I would give it all, and more, for good news on Ben.

Thanks for the update Renee, as tw says there's a lot of people praying, thinking of, sending vibes your way. A solstice turnaround would of been great, but I'm sure you would be happy with a festivus, Christmas Eve, Christmas, or boxing day turnaround. Continued & doubled thoughts, prayers, vibes, etc. headed your way.

if you are going to visit SoCal you better go now before it slides off to the ocean right, Ilene? I just couldn't believe some of the footage I've seen from down there.

thanks for the update. continued thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear you are under the weather John. Hope you get well soon. I've never gotten a flu shot either. DH has a couple times though.

no run for me today. DS has had a friend over since yesterday and while I am fine leaving DS for an hour or so to get in a run, I don't feel right about leaving him and his friend. and not because I think they would do something wrong. They are both very good kids. They are outside playing football right now, and took a hike in the woods earlier.

I've been baking Christmas goodies. Not entirely sure why I do this because there are only 6 of us here and no one is really a big sweets eater (well, just DH), but it just doesn't seem right to NOT bake goodies on Christmas. I try not to be a slave to traditions, but some things bring comfort and I guess baking Christmas goodies is one of those. I will get my wrapping done today also. and then tomorrow I can just relax . . . and hopefully get in a nice leisurely run.

Didn't run yesterday but worked all day painting, etc. and woke up this morning feeling like I got run over by a truck. Worked out some of the kinks doing some more work and got to the Anytime Fitness in the afternoon. I started the run at 11:45 pace (15 seconds faster than I have been) and it really felt hard the first few minutes. Heartrate went to 144 after the first 10 minutes. Finally got warmed up and the heartrate went back to 142 at 20 minutes. Kept the same pace until 50 minutes when I went to 11:32/mile and finished 60 minutes at 5.11 miles. After the treadmill reset, I ran another .89 miles in 9:50 for a total of 6 miles in 69:50 and about 3,800 ft elevation gain. Average heartrate for the whole 70 minutes was around 148.

{{{Ben}}} Come on, buddy, you can do this!!

I'm just amazed by your workouts, Rip. That's quite the low heartrate for the inclines you're running.

So... a day off. Didn't sleep in, but we were in no hurry to get going. I finally left here around 10 and headed to the post office, then to the gym where I ran what I thought was 4 miles at easy to almost GA pace, but counting the laps and watching the clock, it would seem that track is either longer than 200 meters, or I was losing count of laps. When I hit what I thought was 4 miles, it was 37 minutes, for a 9:15 pace. Now, I don't think I've run a 9:15 pace in months and the effort felt closer to 8:35 to 8:45... sort of slower than my "dial it in and forget it" pace of 8:30. So... I fudged my distance a bit, assuming I miscounted a couple of laps (not unheard of) and said 4.25 miles which would be about 8:49 pace. Even that seems slow, but good enough. I walked half mile (.25 warmup, .25 cooldown), and then hit the weight room.

For Opie (and anyone else who cares):

I am so done with shopping. It took me over half an hour to get through the checkout line, then another half hour (at least) to get out of the parking lots and on the way home. One thing about a small town with uncontrolled retail growth: nobody paid attention to road planning.

My max can't be much over 170 so when I get near 165 I am about ready to fall off the treadmill and everybody at the gym is already noticing that I am breathing like a freight train. My comfortable heartrate is more like 132-135.

Wow, ok, that puts it in perspective. I think my max is close to 200, and I'm running in the mid 160's to low 170's on many of my runs (and not working hard either). Difference between men and women, I've been told, and just individual variances. Breger runs a lot of runs in my walking HR!

DS's GF is still as charming as ever. She's so good for him, and handles the sometimes "challenging" humor of my DH in stride.
