I am scheduled to do a sprint tri this weekend. The current weather forecast is for T-storms and high winds. The swim portion is indoors.

Do they typically still run triathlons in T-Storms?

I will be there either way, just wondering.

Lightening will stop it.

here is the response I got from the race director.

The event will proceed rain or shine. In the event of lightning we will postpone until it passes. If it does not pass in a timely fashion we will change to a run bike run event. We do not anticipate having to do this as we never have had to in the past

When I was younger and I would go swimming at the indoor pool they would close the pool when lighting was approaching. So I would not surprise me that they would delay the event or cancel the swimming all together.

A few big triathlons have been cancelled in the Chicago area due to the threat of lightening. Mainly because the storms lasted longer than they were able to keep the roads closed / have police support. But if it's a duathlon, just think how much faster T1 will be

The first year I ran the Country Music Marathon, there was a thunderstorm close to the start time and they held up the start for about 20 minutes. The thunderstorm wasn't anywhere close to the start area, but they had numerous bus delays in getting runners from the parking lot at the finish over to the start. It may have been an opportunity to blame nature on a management busing problem!

Lightning is an issue with large crowds since all it would take is one bolt to ruin your day!
