Sent to CC this morning, but thought I'd get the Peanut Gallery to chime in too if you don't mind.

I’m thinking of holding off registering on my 2nd HIM race for 2008 until I can mentally figure out which race.

Steelhead – Lots of my NEW tri club friends going (just found this out last night! 5 of them!), pretty flat, weekend trip w/ DW NO kids, Done it 3x so I KNOW that course. Always been STUPID HOT.

Newfoundland – Solo trip w/ DW NO kids, $2500. Should be COOL WEATHER – like 60 degrees! 2x5 mile hill on bike, rest FLAT.

Racine – Lots of my old tri club friends going, very flat, close to home – driveable. Never done it, heard it’s good. 2 years ago it was center of the sun hot (35% dnf), last year mild.

I knew my answer before even seeing the choices. Newfoundland looks like a beautiful course. The money's the catch, but man, isn't 60 degree weather worth it? Practically guarantees you'll Ronbo the heck out of the course. And imagine how much fun it would be if the only element of sufferfest is how hard you push yourself!

Newfoundland does sound cool. From Chicago, you can do Steelhead or Racine any year.

I did Racine last year. I don't have much to compare it to, but I thought it was a good race. I can see it getting pretty hot, I trained on the course a couple of weeks before and it was tough. Not much shade on the course.

I'm signed up for Racine again this year, but probably won't do it. The Chicago-Mac sailing race is same weekend and if I have a spot on the boat for the 100th running of that, I'll be there. If I don't do Racine, I'll probably do Muncie the week before.

Good luck, having too many nice races is a good problem to have.

NewFoundland.

But if you really want to do a race that many of your triathlon clubs mates will also do, go to Racine.

I personally like doing different courses for the different experiences gained. Although Timberman is in my backyard, the truth is, since I've already done it, I may never do it again. But only because I want to try other courses. The tough part is that it's so much different an experience racing among friends. That is special.

So, if money is an issue, do Racine. If not, go to Newfoundland. Because as Mike says, you can always do Steelhead and Racine.

Newfie if you can pony up the cost. Perfect weather, getaway with DW.

Newfoundland! Since it got on your list, the cost is not an issue. As others said, you can do Racine or Steelhead anytime.

Okay, fine. Newfoundland. I'll just be lonely in Lake Michigan.
