This won't be a long race report....

Perfect morning for a race. The temperature was in the mid-60s, sky was clear. It was a little windy, but since the race was in a residential area the houses blocked a lot of the wind. Plus, we finished with the wind at our backs.

I went out a little fast in the first mile (7:09). I feel like I fell into a comfortably hard pace and tried to stick with it. Mile two split was 14:40 (7:31). Mile three split was 22:20 (7:40) and I finished in 23:09. Wasn't my fasted 5K (PR is 22:47 at this same race last year), but is very close to it.

I am really pleased with the results considering I haven't done any speed work in months and spent a lot of the summer injured. I really can't wait to spend the next year working on speed. I think I have some potential.

I took first in my age group, so I got hardware!

Oh, and I came >>this close<< to finishing in front of Jim Ryun. Damn it all if he didn't pass me in that final turn to the finish. I didn't have enough in me to get past him. Next time he's going down!!
