We're done! The Bull Run Run 50 Mile is history.

All things considered, we had a great weather (30F start, high of 50F), light rain in the 2nd half of the race, negligible winds, and a fairly dry trail. Very runnable this year.

I'll post a full report when I get home on Monday, but here are the quick results.

I finished in 8:17, just under a 10min pace. 30th place, 370 registered, and I don't know how many finishers yet.

Durt ran further than ever before and finished his 1st ever 50M in about 11.5 hours. I'll let him tell the tale, but he was in great spirits al the way to the end.

The Virginia Happy Trails Running Club did an outstanding job with the race. I felt pampered at each aid station.

Now its time to celebrate with dinner. I'm pooped!

Way to go on some super races guys! I DNF'ed this race last year and know what a bear it can be. I am super duper jealous of your BRR jackets. Did you both run for the North? Roots, i hear your team won? Congrats.

Durt, congrats on going the farthest you have ever gone. We are gonna kick some butt at Old Dominion next month.

Rest up the two of you!

I am feeling left out, but i will get over it I have no urge to go back to BRR and cry and puke in the woods

Thanks for the post Roots! You and your team really kicked some major trail ass!

It was a fantastic race--perfect weather, well organized, and challenging (at least for me). Being a flatlander, there were quite a few good steep hills, as well as quite a few long shallow ones.

I'll be working on my race report over the next couple of days, but I do want to plug a couple folks now:

--Merigayle: you've been such a huge help to me throughout all of my training and preparation! Countless questions on the course, gear, training, etc.. You have been a great coach.

--Roots: Thank you for meeting me for my last mile in! From mile 40 on in, I was running with a couple of other folks I had met earlier in the race, and we were moving along at a pretty good clip, up until the last 2 miles (seemed like every time we thought we were approaching the last hill, we weren't. . .). All the sudden, you appeared, and told us the final climb was around the corner. . .just like someone poured some fresh fuel in the tank. Now, that hill was nasty, and I didn't like doing it once, but you did it twice. . .once by yourself, and once with my sorry ass. . .and all I can say is THANK YOU! And somehow, when I got to the top, I was able to kick it up a notch and finish almost a minute faster than the others who were right behind me in the last 1/2 mile.

Nice race - The Both of you!

Roots - I feel a destiny of some day doing an ultra with you - Not sure why - But don't be suprised to see a big piggy running along side you -

Durt - It is super flat around here - How are the quads - Mine still won't forgive me.

I've been making out pretty well running up and down the stairs at work. Not bad enough to worry about going backwards, and I'm feeling much looser now.

Five minutes on the foam roller totally did the trick yesterday.

Hey Durt, thanks for having me along in the last mile of your race. You actually left me in the dust in the final stretch as you sped off to the finish!

Sorry I have not got around to my RR yet. While I have many, many thoughts swirling around in my head about this awesome day, I have inherited a project deadline at work that's taking my attention away from writing.

I want to share the tale soon--I promise.

In the meantime, there is a an initial race report here (VHRTC) and a teaser photo here of me just yards from the finish line.
