I bought a bunch at Costco. How do i know when they are ready to eat? I have never had them.

They are probably ready, if unripe will have a distinctly greenish tint.<br><br>
They taste much better if you keep them in the refrigerator for awhile first. They have the consistency of watermelon - extremely crisp but almost 100% water.<br><br>
Their Japanese name is Nashi, I learned to love them there.

It was gross. I made one of the girls i work with try it and she said it was not as good as they should be. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Sad"> i have a case, so i will try another.

pretty grody. i tried to give altoids some and she said she did not want to take the food i thought was gross <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Very Happy"> she was on to me.

I have one I got yesterday at Whole Foods sitting on my counter right now! Might be a great mid-morning snack!<br><br>
Just for reference, I had my first one (and only one) a few weeks ago. It was slightly sweet, crispy and juicy. No mealy-ness of typical pears and definitely not sour. It was delicious!
