Moral of the story: Never buy pet shop puppies. Every year the humane society tries to discourage holiday shoppers from buying living gifts, this time with footage of puppy mills with a direct link to high-end pet stores selling the puppies. Of course, the pet store employees swear up and down that they don't get puppies from puppy mills.<br><br>
What the story doesn't go into is what happens when pet store puppies outgrow their cuteness without being sold. They're usually killed, dumped, or taken to an animal shelter.<br><br>
Ok, DogMom, your thoughts? Anyone else?

We have five pets -- all rescues. I am a firm believer in making adoption the first option. Spread the word.

My picture is of Spooky, my sweetheart shelter rescue. I think rescues are the best, for both pet and person.

This is why I never advocate going to a breeder. They charge you more than what it costs to adopt a dog from a shelter and then they end up having problems anyway.<br>
I know there are ethical breeders out there somewhere but I personally have never come across any.<br>
If you have to have a purebred then adopt from a purebreed rescue group. They usually health screen, vaccinate, alter and temperment test the dogs before they adopt them out.<br>
Mutts are generally healthier.
