Here's the proposed scoring table for next round. It is the same as for the last round; I think it worked well.

One proposal that I like: what about adding a 5 point premium for a race? Notey made the suggestion a while back, and I think it's a good one in that it gives a little bump for the extra intensity that a race provides. I don't think we should make it any more complicated than this: no "speedwork" bonuses, no graduated formulae for length or race or multisport races. If you do an endurance race, no matter the distance and no matter if it's a single-sport or multisport race, you get 5 points plus whatever points you get for the distance covered. Period.

Thoughts?

VRAA scoring categories:

I. Running/Walking: 4 pts for every mile (1 pt for every 1/4 mile). All weekly miles in excess of 80 to be scored at one-half points (2 pts per mile.)

II. Swimming: 1 pt for every 100 yards (indoor or outdoor)

III. Outdoor Cycling: 1.5 pt for every mile

IV. General Cardio*: 1 pt for every 3 minutes

V. Alternate workouts**: 1 pt for every 5 minutes (maximum of 60 minutes, or 12 points, per day; we do not intend to turn this race into Yoga Your Ass Across America)

* General Cardio includes: Stationary bike/Bike trainer/Elliptical/Stair- stepper/Rowing, etc. The basic requirement for this category is an activity that produces a sustained, elevated and/or aerobic heart rate.

** Alternate workouts: This category is open to interpretation. To a point. Below are the suggested activities. The guidance with this category is to count time spent working and not rest time.

- Yoga/Pilates
- Weighlifting/Circuit training
- Core/Abdominal work

When do we start?

Otherwise, I was happy with the scoring. I may be influenced by my team winning...maybe.

Why would riding the bike on the trainer differ from riding outside?

That would be like saying that running on a treadmill and running outside are different.

To me they are one in the same

i really would like the skating be be measured in miles instead of time. i can skate for hours teaching but it doesn't do nearly as much as mileage does.
