Steve Prefontaine would have turned 60 this week. When I was growing up, Pre was probably the most legendary athlete in the State of Oregon. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the day I found out he died. That is the kind of indelible mark he left on many of us.

The website TrackFocus is running a week long feature honoring Pre's legacy. They are sharing seven untold stories about him from some of the folks who knew him best. If you're interested, here is the link to these stories: Steve Prefontaine

Thanks Lab,

I'm only 3.5 years younger than he would have been had he lived. Yet, living in KS I really didn't realize who he was until he died. There were others that we followed more closely I guess. I appreciate his sisters' perspective.

Julie and I went to the track and to his accident/shrine site when we came out and ran the Portland marathon a year or so ago. Glad we got to do that.
