Hi All--

I am DONE with the kiddos at school. Yay!! There is always follow up of sorts, of course, but the major stuff is finished--I even got my grades done early.

GREAT photos of kiddos and puppies--looks like everyone is doing OK? Continue good vibes to mom's, dad's, pawpaws and continued healing to everyone, too.

What are you all running? Shopping, festivity planning done?

Got lots of appts coming up--neuro, another surgical opinion, a new PT place that may be worth trying before any of this..blah blah. It's gettin' old already, but I'm trying to keep busy. Activity helps.

QOD: What's a tradition during the season you had as a kid that you still do now (or look forward to, etc)?

I have several, but my mom always made home made cinnamon rolls on christmas morning--no matter where we were--and gave us new jammies on christmas eve. I still do both!

Ok gotta ramble on..be good yous guys.

7 miles this morning. Swirling wind gave me a head wind both ways. pfftht.

Crap night of sleep. Dh sanded the floor this morning (with the palm sander, at 6am, directly under our bedroom) so we'll be getting the last coat of varnish on today.

But it might be after a nap. oy.

Also need to glaze a load of pots, get the kiln going, and... work on some other projects.

QOW: I can't think of any childhood traditions I still do. Dh and I have started our own, but.... can't think of anything that has carried over.

Morning ladies!

Woot - I slept in until 9:30 am! Boy did I need that. Now I am working, which isn't so fun, but I have a lot to do before heading on vacation!

QOD: We always had our main family celebration on Christmas Eve. Once the kids were old enough to realize there was no Santa, we even did all of our presents on Christmas Eve. Now, I don't do this with my boys, but on Christmas Eve I still get together wtih my parents and my sister and her family. It is cool.

Moe - ooh, I LOVE hydrangeaas too - that is an awesome gift. I hope he loves it.

It snowed here last night and I was not expecting that. I will work a few hours and then head out after it (hopefully) warms up a little and melts some.

Urf. I just finished 11.5 miles, and it wasn't fun. I guess whatever bug has been ailing me this week is still around. My pace wasn't awful (considering how slow I've been lately), but I just wasn't feeling good. I'm glad it was a step-back week and I didn't need to go for 20 or so. And I'm glad it's over. Now I need to rest...

QOD: Heh. This is the first thing I thought of. Ever since I was a little kid, my parents would give me $5 in gift certificates to McDonalds. As I grew up and went off to college, they still kept giving them to me. As time went on, I stopped going to McDs very much, but I still looked forward to getting the gift. But then the first year after I was married, they didn't give them to me. I actually complained about it and my mom was surprised. She says, "But I thought you don't go there any more, and I figured that now since you're married..." I guess I just missed the tradition. Well, ever since then, they give me the gift certificates again. Well, a gift card now. So basically the only time I ever go to McDonalds is right after Christmas so I can use the gift card.

That's funny @ the McDs coupons boB.

When I was a kid we (siblings and I) had to wait until after we sat down and had breakfast together and went to mass before we could open Christmas gifts. Then we spent the afternoon playing with our loot and then had a big dinner together.

Dh's family always did their main celebration on Christmas eve. They (Dh's family + his aunt, uncle & cousins) go to the vigil mass and then back to his mom's house for a feast. They do a family picture every year, and exchange gifts. Since his mom passed, the feast location has changed to Dh's aunt's house, or his brother's. (They alternate years.) But the whole family (which now includes nieces, nephews and 2nd cousins) still gets together for mass and dinner.

So Dh and I end up celebrating on the evening of the 23rd, so we can do something just for us, then we do Christmas Eve mass & dinner & gifts with his family, then Christmas day dinner & gifts with my family.

Greetings, all.

Add me to the not motivated list. I ran some errands this morning and went grocery shopping. zzz. Plans were to come home, eat, and then go for a run. After which, I'd head out to the front yard and start raking/bagging pine needles. (After the new year' I'm having a few of the pines removed + stump grinding of all the little parts leftover from cleanup earlier this year, and I wanted to get rid of as much pine straw in advance, to ensure some small stumps aren't overlooked)

I had too big of a lunch, have now found a parade on TV, and have NO interest in doing anything but watching and vegging :) Meh! I wish there was more daylight these days for outdoor stuff!

QoD; As a kid, the holidays were always a rush to visit family several hours away one night, and then to visit more family several hours away another night, and then return home the next day. That was the only tradition, and I'm quite happy to be home these days!

Bob - So what do you get with your GC's now? If that's the only time you go to mcDonald's, I imagine you're not big on their fries or anything along those lines :)

Happy Weekend! I got 11 miles done this morning, then went to watch some friends in a local 5k, then hung stockings at the running store for all the employees. Busy day around here, capped off with a LATE night dinner in the city for a friend tonight.

Love the QOD question, but I have to think about it... without kids/family of my own, I'm not sure which childhood ones still carry over...

It's not the first time that Star Wars and Christmas crossed paths. There was a horrible TV special from 1978. It even had Jefferson Starship as a holographic band and Bea Arthur running the Mos Eisley Cantina.

heya peeps

9.3 miles this morning on a thin layer of fresh snow. It's gone now....hmmpff.

the workout was supposed to be 6 x 1 miles - alternating between GRP and tempo....however I misremembered it and was talking to a woman about her new pullover during instructions so I did 3x2miles with the first at GRP and the second at tempo...so I did a harder workout. not the smartest thing i've done. Overall it went very good. I hit my paces except for the first tempo where I was a few seconds slow due to overheating (I shed a layer after that). I must say I LOVE my compression tights. My legs feel very peppy in them.

Longer run tomorrow but at a slower pace. I am doing the last 14 of my friend's 21 miler. That means I sleep in a bit....woot!

QOD: I can't think of anything honestly. We used to open 1 gift on Xmas Eve and it was always from my maternal grandparents. Which mean it sucked in the eyes of a kid (socks, etc.). They passed when I was in jr high so it has been a little freer since then and now with us often splitting eve and day between families, we do what we can.

PSA - tights are not pants, and shouldn't be worn as if they are, even if they are opaque. Especially if you're working in a retail establishment where you are visible to the general public for an extended period of time.

Nice running out there...the 10's 11's and 14's tomorrow for Brandy...Ok, this is whining, but I think I can warrant just a bit...the weather THIS year is in the 40's, etc and has not be cold nor piles of snow. Yeah. This year. Thanks, weather. Harumph.

I've been lazy today too...had errands to do and some letters to write and some other bill catch up, but mostly feel sluggish and tired. And you know what? I'm just giving into it. So there.

YES on the PSA and can I add another? Lady at the grocery store: you can't pull off the clippy-feathers thing in your hair. it only works if you are a model, hippie, actively participating in a pow wow or twelve years old. you? so sorry. nope.

You're taking away all my fun!! /snicker :)

No run. Catnap took priority. Went outside and raked two large trash bags worth of pine straw, barely making a dent in things. Decided to change plans. Got my leaf blower. VROOOOOMMMMM. Bad news is that it's corded and I ran out of reach far too soon. A trip to ace hardware will take care of that tomorrow, and hopefully I can get that project finished up. It's hard to believe how much pine straw accumulates from maybe 9 trees over just 8-9 months, when the area was burned free of pine straw and debris!

I WILL run tomorrow. I WILL run tomorrow. I WILL run tomorrow. (figure if I keep saying it, maybe it will actually happen!)

Busy day today. Errands this morning, then a holiday open house with my choral group at our director's house, and now I'm at my parents. Roads got a bit icy after light snow fell all day, and my car slipped a bit once. Fortunately, a car coming the opposite direction had flashed lights in warning and I saw some cars off the side of the road, so I had already eased up and was able to maintain control when I hit the icy patch. Fun times.

Santa!

I couldn't make myself go to the gym this morning to do my homework, but I'll go tomorrow. Instead, I cleaned a little, worked on my x-stitch project, watched some stuff on DVR and the like. Tomorrow after the gym and a sink full of dishes, I'm going to make pumpkin cookies. That leads a little into the

QOW:

1. Every year my maternal grandmother made my uncle (dad's bro) pumpkin cookies. When my gram went into a nursing home, my aunt (mom's sister) took over the baking. One year, my aunt told me that it was my turn to bake the cookies. So, now I do.

2. My family had two Christmas trees: one in the living room and one in the basement. Since all 10 people in the family spent Christmas morning at our house, we couldn't fit all the presents under the tree, so we'd put them under the downstairs tree until Christmas Eve when I would run multiple trips up and down the stairs to bring all the presents under the upstairs tree. When the next generation got old enough, they started doing the running for me. This year, my mom told me that she's not putting the presents under the downstairs tree, and she hopes that I'm not upset about that. I am a little, but I can deal. Still, that was one of my favorite parts about Christmas because then I could gauge how well I made out in presents before Christmas morning. Now we don't even open presents until a day or two after the day, whenever we can get the whole family together.

I was having a weird conversation the other day at the office, and finally realized that it wasn't that weird. I guess I'm spoiled that I have a relatively small family that lives sorta close together (except me, but I'm single with no kids, so I can travel more easily). Anyhow, I talked to colleagues who haven't seen some of their siblings for years. I get that people are spread out now and cross-country travel is expensive, but it made me sad for them. Unless they don't like their siblings, in which case, I guess it's ok.

Enjoy the rest of yinz guys' weekends.

bard, i LOVE that pic!!

craney, yesterday i dropped by a pottery sale with works from our local artists (none were as talented as our own kath!) and i saw a little statue entitled, "On the Road to Recovering and Overcoming" and i thought of you. i wanted to buy it for you but it was almost $300 and i can't afford that right now :)

we had a holiday party last night and this afternoon and in between, i spent most of time in the kitchen cooking/ baking for the brunch we're hosting tomorrow (making NCRG's eggnog french toast - its sitting in the fridge now!)

fitness: i finished day 5 of level 2 of 30DS. its still kicking my butt. i think i'll stay on this level until i can do the whole workout without modification/ taking breaks. does that sound right, 30DSers?

i wanted to share a little christmas tradition that my family started about 10 years ago. basically, leading up in the days to christmas, we all think of ideas for random acts of kindness. one year, we went to walmart and paid off several customers' layaway purchases for toys. another year we went to a nursing home and sang carols and passed out baked cookies. another year we dropped by a firehouse and left goodies. this year, my little family will be donating toys/jackets to a womens/children's shelter. i want to challenge our 30s family to one random act of kindess this coming week. share about it here if you'd like, but here are some ideas: http://lillightomine.zeekeeinteractive.com/tyfoon/dnld/p54d668aa41d1c05b4e/FINALllomideas.pdf

maybe thats a small tradition that we, our 30s family, can start. happy holidays, dear dear friends.

Missy, that's really nice. Good on you!

I couldn't make myself get out of bed yesterday to do my fitness homework, so I made myself do it today. The rest was probably good because by last night, I was able to sit and stand without intense pain in my quads. So, I ran a mile this morning (a tad faster) and then did ball crunches followed by jump rope: 50/100, 40/80, 30/60, 20/40, 10/20. The trainer said it would probably take 10 minutes, which I highly doubted, but I finished it in 10:06 and that includes a water break, so not bad at all. I can't wait to see what torture he has for me tomorrow. :sarcasm:

Because force-feeding Darcy kitty prozac pills wasn't working, I got liquid kitty prozac to force feed him. He wasn't a fan yesterday, but we were friends again soon enough. He didn't sleep with me last night, though, which made me worried that I killed him, but he seems fine, if a little subdued this morning. I'll give him another dose after my shower.

After I wash dishes this morning, I plan to make cookies, though my throat is really starting to hurt. I had strep last year, and I really don't want it again. Tomorrow I'm submitting grades, so maybe I'll put off the cookies until Tuesday or Wednesday. Did I ever mention that I'm a procrastinator?

Love to all!
