I would leave a nice tip if I actually got service. If the restaurant is nearly empty (ie waitress isn't swamped) I expect more than my order taken, food served, and check dropped off. My empty glass sitting at the edge of the table was a hint that I wanted a refill. And even though we both ordered fries, there was no ketchup. You do the minimum, you get the minimum.

And while I'm on a roll...

If I go into your bike shop to buy Gu for my triathlon, don't tell me that my sport is stupid. One third of my sport revolves around your sport--bicycling. Like I might actually buy stuff from your store. But, if you ask what event I have coming up and I reply a triathlon, and you tell me it's stupid, not a pure cycling event, etc., I might just fnd somewhere else to buy my Gu, and all the other assorted bicycling gear.

Okay, I"m done now.
