There's a trail through the Konza Prairie, just outside of Manhattan, Kansas that is spectacular. (This is a nature preserve owned by the Nature Conservancy for the study of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem). I've run it when visiting my mom in Manhattan and it makes me think of that front page of Runner's World where they have a photo of a "rave run".<br><br>
The Konza Prairie is <i>not</i> flat<i>,</i> but rather quite hilly. From a high point you can look down into the valley of the Kansas river. You'll see turkeys and other birds and 4-legged critters as well as a lot of native foliage and grasses. (I think it must have looked that way for miles and miles when the wagon trains came across the great plains.) The trail is a 6 mile loop, with two shorter cutoffs, if you're not interested in going that far.<br><br>
