Your favourites either at home or away, or just ones that have tantalized you.

Here's mine from this weekend. They've finally finished with trail maintenance on Nose Hill and I have a 9 mile pathway run for the winter when I don't want to run cross-country. It does involve five street crossings though.

Nose Hill Regional Pathways

0-.3 uphill
.3 - 1 gradual down
1 - 2.2 steeper uphill
2.2- 3 downhill, at times steep
3- 5.5 uphill, at times insanely so, particularly when on the hill. Trail follows "Many Owls Valley" and at the 5 mile point is pitched at 10% or so.
5.5 - 7.5 (or so) rolling hilltop.
7.5 to home, downhill, at times steep down Porcupine Valley.

From home (3770 ft) to highest point (4050 ft), with a couple of 150 or so foot climbs thrown in.

Edited to add a panorama of the run down Porcupine Valley. Trail goes from left to right... you can make it out (just).

My fav CALGARY route is around the reservoir, about a 10 mile loop through a mix of city houses and wetlands marsh complete with deer and elk.

My fav VANCOUVER route is around the boardwalk from the tourship dock, down to Stanley Park, around the park and then down Beach road to Burrard bridge and then back to the tourship dock. About a 10 mile loop.

My fav route here at the mine is the only one I've got. It's an out and back along a forest access road, with a lot of hills and a lot of wildlife. As an out and back it can be anywhere from 4 km to 240 km. I usually run around 12.

There's a trail through the Konza Prairie, just outside of Manhattan, Kansas that is spectacular. (This is a nature preserve owned by the Nature Conservancy for the study of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem). I've run it when visiting my mom in Manhattan and it makes me think of that front page of Runner's World where they have a photo of a "rave run".

The Konza Prairie is not flat, but rather quite hilly. From a high point you can look down into the valley of the Kansas river. You'll see turkeys and other birds and 4-legged critters as well as a lot of native foliage and grasses. (I think it must have looked that way for miles and miles when the wagon trains came across the great plains.) The trail is a 6 mile loop, with two shorter cutoffs, if you're not interested in going that far.

Here's picture I got from the Konza website:

Good idea for a thread, Grizzly. Looks like a great loop. Looks too urban for Canaja.

Runinbehind... that's just gorgeous. I've run in similar settings, and I think Torque has too. Great shot.

Tilden Park in Berkeley. There are many great trail runs in this park, but the one I most commonly run is an 8 mile out and back along the Nimitz trail on the ridge. If the fog has cleared off there are amazing views of the bay and Golden Gate bridge.

my favourite:
the road is a dirt road through this section of town, and climbs in altitude to the east toward vail pass... about 2 miles east of this little spot, it's totally deserted, with no houses or people to be seen...

Tigger mentioned the Glenmore Reservoir.

Here's a map of the 10 mile run and some pictures. Of the 300+ miles of trails in Calgary, these are 10 of the nicest, and as my family has found, we can bike out of our back door and with only a handful of street crossings make it to here via the pathway system, about a 12 mile drive in and of itself.

Route Map

gladly!

mr. poo and i are planning (what we hope will become) an annual trip to CO for riding/running. it's my distinct hope that we will be able to stop in vail on the way to grand junction/moab in order for me to run shrine pass road. i suspect i will be miserable with the altitude change, but i will be more than happy to pass out in that place. it's 14 miles of near-heaven.

per a request from grizz:

i ran here on saturday.

it's a little patch of calm in an otherwise busy area.

it doesn't look like much; admittedly, i thought i was only going to be able to go for a meandering stroll... but there are many short, steep inclines requiring a great burst of effort. my quads are achy today.
