Hello everyone. I hope everyone has settled into the new forum. Not as bad now that the dust has settled, eh?

Before I offer the poll question, I thank everyone for participating.

Regarding how the game ends, I read your ideas and found that the last round (24 days) was too short and that also some would like to see a race with an ending, i.e. like what is planned this round to end at a finish line in Maine at some 6900 miles.

At our current rate of progress, we are on about a 2000pt per week pace, or 3.5 weeks until a team reaches the goal 6900 miles. (Projected: May 20)

I pose the question to you all: How would you like the game to end?

- A pre-determined end date? (Apr 27 - May 31), where the top team wins?

- A set point total (6900, or 8000, or 10,000), with no set dates, but where the first team to xx points wins?

There are pros and cons to both ways. Also, keep in mind that Memorial Day weekend falls right at the 4 week mark. I'd hate to see some participants not able to play due to family getaways and such. For example, if its a race to the finish, I'd hate to see a team win or lose due to players not accessing computers due to holiday. (Also, I just did not envision this game to be a function of speed to enter in the workouts.)

I had set the May 31 end date for a couple reasons: players from last round mentioned the game ended too soon, and that the game would end well after the Memorial Day weekend and to ensure that everyone has a day or two to enter in their scores.

What do think? A pre-determined end date, or point total?

I have my recommendations, but ask for your input too.
Thanks,
I think anytime after Labor Day would be great. The real problem for me is when that will make the other one start. My numbers are pathetic now but once base training for XC starts around mid-June I'll actually have some numbers. So whenever it is that makes it start around then would be ideal for me. Hopefully for some others too...

If it is a number of miles - when it is close to the end - it will get sticky - If it is close - Unless maybe - It ends on the day when X number of points is reached and if close - whom ever has most miles at the end of that day?

Mathematically speaking, the VRAA game is a function of points scored, number of players, and time available. Organizing the race distance was an educated guess. At first, I was going for teams of 10 players. Based on last round's mean point total, I guessed about 6900 points would take about a month.

Registration lagged but we had a surge of entrants on the last day. I opted for three teams of 14 each rather than four teams of 9 or 10. Moreover, I quickly discovered that the caliber of player is better now. The first VRAA round was an unknown, which resulted in some disinterested players, thus less point scoring.

Not this round. Y'all some motivated folks!

As I talk through this problem, I discovered some follow-on questions for the planning of future VRAA rounds.

If the poll were modified, pick one:

A. End May 31. Highest point total wins.
B. First team to 10,000 points.

Thanks,
Really does not matter, either way you could have a race to the finish! Are you going to post standings at certain points? I am sure you answered that somewhere already, and I am sure I missed it. So, if you don't mind could you post it again?

I think since this round was advertised as going until May 31, it seems to make sense to end it that day.

In the future I like the "whoever gets to X point level or check point first wins," because that's more like a "real" race would be.
