Scotch Broom? We actually PAY to buy that down here and plant it. I kind of like it. It hides the outdoor unit of my A/C rather well. And what's wrong with honeysuckle? (I know you didn't post that one Mr T)

Scotch Broom has become an invasive species here - it has replaced a lot of native ecosystems. Many are allergic to it also. It was brought here years ago by a homesick immigrant. Now its everywhere. As a parks employee its a bit of a pain in the rear for us.

Don't get me wrong, I love blackberries. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your perspective) someone brought the Himmalayan blackberry to my region many years ago. While the berries are yummy, it is incredibly invasive and establishes inpenetrable thickets wherever its allowed to get a toe hold. We're just approaching the end of black berry season as I type.

Yup, we host broom pull out parties as part of our eco renovation projects. Stuff's a bitch to get out.
Scotch Broom invasive. Really? That's wild.

Mine always end up dying for one reason or another. When they get big (maybe 3 or 4 feet across) it takes several years, and they don't put down much in the way of roots, and sometimes even fall over if the ground is really saturated, and then we get a big wind. Like, um, last Saturday! The one we have now is still alive and doing well.
