Yes indeed folks I am not having a crunchie.

I don't feel I deserve some of the lovely comments I get in here and feel I fail to contribute in the other direction especially recently.

I also think I have posted rather a lot of negativity around my training and the only positive has been MrsG recovering.

This must change.

Hill session last night in racing flats and no pain in my achillies or calf.

My weight has started to come back down again.

Pizza will be a challenge this evening so I have decided to train more than I normally do on a Friday :¬)

Rach and I are both doing LA again next year and plan to have a two week holiday around the race. I think part of the challenge should be to meet a few more of you.

Have a great Friday

Change is good Gobi. VRAA started 6 hours ago. Shouldn't you be running or something?

Rolled out of bed before 5 today and took care of Job 1: Lay on my back with my knees bent for 2 minutes like my chiropractor wants me to do, then 30:00 of stretching. Have been doing that routine (maybe only 15 or 20 minutes of stretching some days) for the past month and a half. I had a sort of epiphany last night that the pain in my chest and back, which first scared the carp out of me, is a neck alignment issue. I'm hoping I can get to the chiro today for an adjustment. Actually feels not too bad this morning though.

Will be checking in later today - I'm running 3 miles at lunchtime with my team in preparation for tomorrow's 5k race.

Lab - nice workout last night

Matt - congrats on your paper/article. 1st time or not?

2 mile warmup; 4 X 40 at 5k pace with 1:20 recoveries; cool down

Tomorrow 2.5 hour run with 2 X 5 mile repeats at mp with 2 mile between.

Good morning G, BTY, KS!!!

I'm not seeing it all so much as negativity, Gobi. We all go thru rough patches, and the support we all give each other when one of us is down is one of the many reasons I hang around here. Now go run or bike or something!

Brian, glad you're going to get that checked out.

Hi KS! Hope you're staying out of the way of these hurricanes.

Hi to JJC!!! Long time no see!

Congrats on the sun spot paper and the publicity, MC! That's fascinating stuff!

Today's going to be a full rest day for me. Will go to PT at lunch for some more work on the knee. Funny, it seems to hurt the most right after icing it, but less so a couple of hours later. At least it wasn't keeping me awake last night ........ I had the wildest dream!!

BTW.... the weekly totals for last week are posted on this week's thread. Sorry it took so long.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!!!

Hi all -

Its Friday already? Well... I'm feeling better, hopefully next week I'll be able to run again. This week is only stretching and walking. Made a decision to bail on the half... I'm disappointed, but my body is just not ready to go that far. After being in serioius pain on Sunday, and a long talk with Tammy & John (and more John) after lunch on Wednesday, I realize I need to face reality.

Feeling much better today after my decision is made, body is getting better every day

Good run yesterday Opie, you're on the comeback trail.

Nice paper MC!

KS that sounds like a killer w/o you have planned. GL. I'm looking forward to the report.

Rindy - sometimes that's the hardest decision to make. I've had to do that in the past too. But it's all for the best. Live to run another day.

tw - that's good advice, but you forgot to specify not to induce floating through chemical means. I think.

There's nothing better than pain-free running. 14 miles this morning in light rain, mid 60's. 8:25 avg pace. This matches the longest run I've had since July 2, and it felt like it. But I can work on this.

Great to hear from JJChaney.

2 miles "loosen up" run today as prep for my 20K tomorrow. Still debating whether to run it at some predetermined sub-MP pace, or try to run it as fast as I can. I am thinking to be safe, two weeks out from TCM, that a set pace is the wiser choice. Spareribs

Buenos Dias!

I thought of Lab today and got a doughnut. a rarity for me. A maple bar. with my coffee. it was actually quite good.

leaving work early and heading out to P2P registration/check-in this afternoon. Then if it's not raining, I'll meet up with DS and DH at the HS football game. Tomorrow is DS's first tackle football game. Fortunately they are playing the same team they beat 42-0 in last Saturday's scrimmage, so, if they beat them again, it'll give them a good mental boost as they start the season.

Good Luck to the Racers this weekend!! Can't wait to read some race reports!

Heme is right, Gobi. We all go through stuff, and you've had some of the most fantastic runs and rides to report sometimes. We all go through ups and downs and we're here to celebrate the highs and comfort/commiserate on the lows. It's all good, and glad you took the morning off! VRAA can wait.

^5 to mcsolar! Working on that since 1990, eh? Wow...

Nice run, Opie... easy on that foot. Feeling no pain is not license to go wild. (yeah, listen to me...)

Yay Mike on a good but hard run. See above note to Opie.

FO, I'll be breaking out the long sleeves tomorrow, too. Temp was 38° this morning and will be about the same tomorrow. I'm going to layer up a bit and drop things at some strategic roadside locations to pick up later. Or see if DH can meet me at a couple spots. We tried that last year and kept missing each other. He was at mile 24 waiting for me, taking pictures, cheering runners, wondering what was wrong. I was almost 5 miles up the trail closing in on the finish! Too funny... glad I carry a cell phone, I was able to talk to him on a walk break and told him to get his butt to the finish cuz I wanted a picture!

I might run a couple miles tonight after work, but it might not work out. I don't think it really matters, and don't care really if I do or don't.

glad you guys liked the articles: unfortunately i'm also getting some emails from "the fringe" asking about how we can use this to combat global warming, or explaining the whole process using subtraction and prime numbers... uggg. of course the sun has a nice new big sunspot coming around today, so maybe our whole extrapolation is wrong... we'll find out in a few years. (ks, i've published about 40 papers so far, but this one seems to be getting the most interest...)

weird morning run. got a crazed cyclist speeding down the bike path angry. he was passing a walker and another cyclist, and was in the wrong lane... i was completely off the path in the dirt, but he still came within a few inches of hitting me. it was a recumbant bike, so i swiped at his warning flag, and the damn thing snapped into pieces. after some swearing and yelling, he decided to chase after me, and i smiled at him and politely invited him to follow me on the rest of my run but he didn't another couple of inches and a lot of other things would have been broken... i hope he comes to that understanding somehow, and decides to use his brakes next time... a$$.

three runs gave me 24mi in a 24hr period. striving to be gobi-like.

{{{{Linda}}}}} Good call.

MC, I had the sneaky feeling that study would attract some unwanted attention. Just give a hint that climate will be affected and all the nutjobs surface (and edited to add) to try to claim that it's more evidence for their side and that we either don't really have to worry or that we have to panic now!

I'll be thinking about you at Equinox tomorrow, Erika! Have fun and good luck!

Guess I'm a nutjob because I was wondering about the global climate connection. Well, you guys knew that anyway.

Erika, no worries. It was an easy run. I had hoped for yoga today because it helps with the PF but it was cancelled. I could have done my embedded circuit workout but that would make for a really long lunch break. So now I get to decide how to work that in with everything going on. DS has an "away" game tonight for marching band but it's at our high school, against the new high school in the district, so I'd like to go but that's when I originally planned to go to the gym. I may go in the morning and skip the group ride, just ride on my own later.

I went to the chiropractor today and he did all sorts of great things to my neck - no more pain in my chest and back.

4.5 miles today - RaceDayEve workout. I thought my team would want to run today, but they chose to take a day off again in lieu of a racedayeve workout. More power to'em, I say.

1 mile out in 10:05, stretched for 3:00, 1.25 miles in 12:19, turned, 1.25 miles in 11:31. I actually jogged that part slower, but I ran 5*100m striders during that stretch. I had to ease up on the 4th and 5th strider, and skipped the 6th planned one because my left hamstring was just hinting that it didn't really like that effort. (Hoping that will go away tonight so I wake up tomorrow with no excuses. ) Stretched for another 3:00, then jogged 1 mile back in 10:15. Total of 4.5 miles in 44:05.
