I might be getting snowshoes for Christmas (fingers crossed).

Are there any good sites for newbie snowshoers?

There is currently 3-4 feet on the ground at the race location. Which is great considering last year we got all of our snow for the race (5 feet) in the 3 weeks preceeding the race.

Anyway... I'm not much a snowshow racer myself. Last year I did the event and just treated it as hours/time on my feet. It took me just over 7 hours to do the marathon.

If you go to the peaks website www.peak.com and go to the Snowshoe race page... scroll all the way down and there are two links. One for Snowshoe Training and the other a link for snowshoe maufacturers.

You can also RENT snowshoes at the race... but its first come first served and we request you contact RD Andy Weinberg with as much advance notice as you can!

I did last years race in regular mountaineering snowshoes (MSR Denali's). A LOT of people used racing snowshoes. To each his own. No better training than to get out there and do it. See this though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowshoe

Last bit of advice grommit... Its all on Joes Hill! UP.. then Down... 4 Loops!
