I did the 50M a few years ago. I thought it was a great race. I was not hugely in love with the course, but the organization, etc, was stellar and if I lived closer, would totally go back! It is a lot of rolling hills, and since I am a weenie and walk most hills, i never felt like I got into the groove, ever, for 50 miles, if that makes sense? I felt like the effort was similar to VT50 but not the long climbs and down hills. The 13 hour cutoff is generous and allows for all runners to finish this race. The Shwag was top notch too!

I did the 50k at Pineland last year. About 1/2 hour after finishing I announced in front of friends & family "maybe I'll do the 50-miler next year!" ... for which I received a bunch of good-natured ribbing from my husband for months following, reminding me that I once questioned the sanity of running a marathon . I'll be returning this year for the 50 miler (my first).

In my race report from the 50k, I posted the elevation profile for the 25k loop. There's not anything ridiculously steep, but there aren't very many flat sections. The course isn't really technical though, making for easy footing. The aid stations were awesome. I didn't actually eat too much of their offerings as I'd trained mostly with just Gu and mostly stuck to that, but volunteers were super helpful and offered a lot of moral support too. It's a great race, well-organized, and .... COWBELL! Who doesn't need more cowbell?

Super well organised. Nice course, rolling, no pavement(maybe 60' per lap), never flat, yet without any monster hills. Trails are non-technical, totally buffed-out x-c ski trails with an enjoyable rythym. Real good lunch and beer at the finish. Music. Cowbells. Put on by the Trail Monsters, a fun bunch. Only an hour from here.

I am going. Regretted not being able to attend the last two years, but the annual memorial day commitment that kept me from coming was moved to labor day, allowing me to enter!

I didn't think so. But then I do loops of a 1.5 mile section of trail all the time (it's the closest patch of trails to my house, so it's just convenient to run there). What it lacks in technicality it makes up for with the constant up & down, IMO.

I did find it not too scenic and a little boring, but great support and awesome after party :) I will not be able to attend this year, but hope to one day get back up there. I am, instead, probably doing the Bethel Midnight Boogie!

That's so funny because I thought it was lovely! I liked the changes from farmland, to woods, back to farmland again. I find farms to be pretty scenic though, while others may not. And cows, they're some of the best spectators! I suppose though, for runners who have done the Barkleys, or those who are doing Badwater(!!!), it could be kind of boring.

I run in farm lands every day. It was not bad at all and one of my more enjoyable 50M races, but I found it not as scenic as others I have done. Though nothing is less scenic than the JFK 50! LOL. I think it was the loops and the tediousness of the rolling hills that made it not as enjoyable as other races. If you like cows, try the Fingerlake 50's in early July, one of my more favorite races!!!!!

I'm in... doing the barefoot 5k on Saturday and 50m on Sunday. If anyone is up for trying on some shoes, I'm doing a running form clinic Saturday afternoon, too. And maybe enjoying a few beers Saturday...
