Don't know about the rest of you, but I get a similar feeling of contentment from a good workout as from a couple of drinks. I doubt that exercising *causes* drinking, or vice versa, but wouldn't be at all surprised if many people are like me and derive similar pleasure from both drinking and exercising.

Yeah. I don't by a "causation" argument. Endorphins are essentially a drug as is alcohol. I imagine it works similarly to a few drinks to loosen up. Plus there's a huge social aspect to races and the thought that I've *earned* a beer after a hard race.

I think it's like anything else. if you race and train with others and are more social, then you drink beers. I dont' drink much, but find myself having a few after our monday night club runs that start and end at a bar.. more social?

Interesting, I have found that I drink a lot less when I'm in full IM training, not because of the reduced social life aspect but simply because my body cannot handle the alcohol very well during training. In fact, in season, 1 beer and I'm tipsy, off season, it's more like 3 or 4, why? I don't know(maybe that says something about my training intensity, that my liver's overwhelmed?) but I do know I don't fit these researcher's rat drinking stereotype!

yeah i find if I drink anything, I sleep 1 hour more and wake up tired. Normally I wake up refreshed. So it's a high price to pay for not getting hammered anyway...
