Hey all - you can scratch me from that list. Due to injury I will be either pacing someone or actively spectating. Sorry.
Okay, here are the rules for the game....

This is open to anybody who wants to play. You don't have to be participating in the Philly Marathon. You just have to want to be part of something.

Choosing a team: Take a look at the list of runners from Tim's post above. Your goal is to pick a team of 4 runners who you think will finish their race closest to the predicted time listed next to their name.

You are not choosing based on speed. A marathoner who predicts a 5:00 time and finishes in 5:02 is better than one who predicts a 2:30 time and finishes in 2:25.

Your team may consist of runners from any combination of the three races. For example, you may choose four marathoners, four 8k runners, two marathoners plus one half marathoner and one 8k'er, etc.

You cannot choose yourself to be on your own team.

The thread which included everybody's initial prediction, plus their rationale for predicting that time can be found here. Feel free to use that thread to gather more information for youself.

To choose your team, email me your 4 picks at: philly -at- bobmann -dot- net. Please include your KR handle and your real name, so I know who you are. If you wish to make your picks known, you may post them in this thread. If you wish to keep your picks a secret, then don't. Tim suggests that posting here will remove some competitveness...

Emails will be accepted until midnight on Wednesday Nov 14. After that time, I will post everybody's picks. You can change your picks as many times as you want before Nov 14 (although I would not appreciate getting 20 emails a day from you). Only your picks in your last email to me before Nov 14 will be counted.

Scoring: A Full Marathon is twice as long as a Half Marathon (duh) and is approximately five times as long as an 8k. Since it is harder to predict a time for a longer distance, scores will be determined like so: For a Marathoner, the score will be equal to the difference between predicted time and actual time. For a Half Marathoner, the score will be equal to twice the difference between predicted time and actual time. For a 8k'er, the score will be equal to five times the difference between predicted time and actual time.

For example: The runners on your team are PersonA, PersonB, PersonC, and PersonD, who run the FM, HM, 8K and 8K respectively. PersonA predicts for themselves a FM of 3:00:00, and runs the race in 2:56:30. Their difference is 03:30, thus their score is 03:30. PersonB predicts a HM of 2:00:00 and runs it in 2:01:30. Their difference is 01:30 and thus their score is 03:00. PersonC predicts an 8k time of 45:00 and runs it in 43:50. Their difference is 01:10, thus their score is 05:50. PersonD predicts an 8k time of 50:00 and finished in 50:20. Their difference is 0:20 and thus their score is 01:40. And the overall score for your team is 03:30 plus 03:00 plus 05:50 plus 01:40, , which equals 14:00. The player with the lowest overall team score is the winner.

Prizes: There are no prizes, other than the love and admiration of your fellow players. We won't play for money or any other objects because we don't want anybody to feel too guilty for running too slow (or too fast!) on race day, thus screwing up the score for anyone who had them on their team. Special acknowledgements will also go out to the runner that gains the most trust pre-race (i.e. gets chosen for the most teams) and to the runner whose personal score is the lowest (i.e. finishes closest to their predicted time, factoring in the distance multiplier). After the Nov 14 deadline passes, I will post the teams and announce the winner of the "most trust" award. The other winners will of course be announced after Philly Marathon weekend.
Yep. It's getting better, but the timeline just isn't good for racing in 2 weeks. I'd rather not risk hurting it more. Bummed. I'm hoping to still pace someone though. Moderate running isn't going too badly.
There is no need for any of you to make predictions. I have just officially picked the winning team!!! But feel free to give it a try anyway!!!
Gotta love that confidence!!! We Philly peeps are gluttons for punishment. We keep believing...
Dude, don't sass me!!!

But you gave me a good idea... I need a team name!!! AS far as teh Egales go, I officially gave up on them, selling my seats for the rest of the season and will use that money for fun in the sun on my cruise. I am one smart cookie!
But I heard that the NFC championship goes through Philly?
Yep, right on through!!! You are very lucky you are so lovable or I would have to throw down with you mister!!!

Maybe cookies should be the prize for whomever wins! Is it whom? No, whom is never right!!!
