I know I posted a similar thread back at the Old Place regarding the Philadelphia Marathon, but I'm happy to see anyone and everyone when I'm over so I'll post here as well and see if anyone else will be around. Given that I have now booked my flights, got the hotel sorted and entered the race, I thought I'd start a thread for those of us who will be there in November.

This will be my Third attempt at Philly. So what I hear you say? Well, I will be coming from Ireland, and hopefully this year I will get to actually run the darn race. In 2001 at a Kicksters Gathering (pre-Cool Running), I was on course for a BQ when I had to drop out around Mile 14 due to a trapped nerve, and in 2005 I had high hopes but got injured a month before the race and by the time I arrived in Philly I was stuggling to run 10K, so switched to the 8K which I enjoyed immensly. So this time it will be Third Time Lucky.

For the record I am Bib Number 2057, and have booked into the Sofitel for the weekend, three nights, arriving on the Friday, leaving on Monday - although we will be staying in the area, as my SO's sister lived in Pa.

Now all I have to do is get trained for it. It's 12 months since my last Marathon, Prague last May, and I have been spasmodic in my running these last 6 months as my mum was seriously ill, passing away last month, so I am only getting back into things, and have put on weight since last year. I'm presently at 197 lbs and need to shed at least 17 by November.

My training plan is my usual 20 week build up, officially starting on Monday next. To give you an idea of my current levels of fitness I ran a 5K on Sunday in 25:48, and struggled. It will be an uphill climb, but I'm focused and determined, and whilst I may not achieve a BQ (3:35), I can break 4 hours if all goes well.

So, who else is actually entered? Locals and travellers alike - Lets get a Gathering Going and nearer the day we can plan to meet up at some point and have a blast - always a feature of Philly.
