<p>If I (a Merkin) and my family (also Merkins) want to travel to The Great White North, we only need Passport Cards, correct?  Anyone know?</p>

<p>My passport expired 4 years ago, and no one else in my family has one.  I would MUCH rather pay the $30 for each card instead of the $110 for a passport for each of us.</p>

<p>I'll take the risk that I won't be going anywhere else soon.  Also, I gather, it will NOT work if I say, FLY to Bermuda (or the Bahamas, or, even Vancouver, for that matter).  I have to enter by sea or by land? </p>

<p>And, before you chastise me...the US Passport website it painfully slow today.  Probably because everyone wants to get one before the govenment shuts down.</p>

<p>You are correct sir.  The passport card is only valid for ship travel where you leave and return to a U.S. port and/or travel to Canada or Mexico by vehicle.  If you fly out of or into the U.S. you must have a passport.</p>

<p>I considered the passport card very briefly and then decided just in case I have to fly back from say Aruba or Toronto for some reason might as well go ahead and get the Passport. </p>

<p>But as long as you are aware of the restrictions on the passport cards, and it looks like you are, they are a valid option.</p>

Well, we're vacationing in Vermont, only about 30 miles from the border, so it's likely that we'll cross it.  By car, of course.  And incredibly unlikely that we would be flying back.  </p>
