I mentioned this a while ago... and it went away in a few days.
Not it hurts again... on top of my foot, maybe halfway between the ankle and the toes. Last time I was told maybe my laces were too tight, so I check them every time now. Could it be just overuse? Or are my shoes getting old? (they have about 300mi). Should I worry about it?
Wasn't very bad during my 12 miles today, but after the run it hurts quite bad. Not so much when I walk, but if I'm laying back, it hurts if I try moving my toes.

It could be nothing. But since you've now checked the "shoe laces to tight" thing, it might be something. (How's that for an answer.) The only time I had such a pain, it was solved by elastic shoelaces.

Have you been ramping up your mileage or did you try something funky like switching to a toe-heel stride after 25 years of heel-toe striding?

I vote for buying a new pair of shoes. I know that always makes me feel better.

I straight-lace my running shoes (in fact all my shoes). Top of my foot was even bothered by an elasticized pair - and straight-lacing seems to work better for me. You end up with extra-long ends, but otherwise it's great ...

http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/straightbarlacing.htm

Hey CS....

how is that bump on your foot doing?
Did you decide to drop another brick on it to "fix" it?

Well... T3 doesn't go to doctors!!!
I'll try two of the possible treatments suggested: new shoes and elastic laces.

What does a stress fracture look like? I don't need an Xray, my body fat in my foot should be close to 0%, I can see everything... The only abnormal thing would be very small bump, barely noticeable, between the first and the second long bone, just an inch in front of the ankle (so pretty far from the toes). Otherwise, bones look straight, movement looks normal...

A stress fracture is gonna be pretty hard to see. Both that I had only showed up on MRI. My heel bone had a whole bunch of very fine cracks. My tibia, the fracture was up and down.

What I have now is tenderness and a bit of swelling. It's right above the toe joint. I did tell the doctor it was quite possible that I kicked something or dropped something on it, but just don't remember. I'm stupid that way.

I wake up with bruises sometimes.
Makes me wonder what I do in the middle of the night.

I also run in to things, a lot. It's like I've got a magnet in me somewhere that pulls me down to the ground, or in toward the nearest sharp poky thing.

I didn't run for two days and doesn't hurt anymore in regular activities... I'll go do a very easy run.. maybe 2 miles, see what happens, come back if it starts again. You guys scared me with the stress fracture, but I've read that for an SF in that area, it should hurt pretty bad when touching, pressing.. and it wasn't the case. Maybe it's still from overuse/lacing.

Actually, I got new shoes, because everytime I feel weird pains in my feet I know it's time to get a new pair. The guy at the store also relaced the shoelaces, by skipping one loop, and it's exactly under that loop that it was hurting, so maybe it is lace-related.
