I mean really... it's a losing battle. Can someone explain this?

I figure we'll just take a nuke and drop it on the house soon as the kids leave for college.

p.s. I am NOT a clean freak. I just prefer to

a) have a PATH to get from one place to another

b) Find my crap

c) Have all lilliputions living in my house be able to find THEIR crap

d) Not have a colony of mice/bugs/other freeloaders living in my house

e) have the house not stink

just sayin

You sound like my DH. Do you have these 'philosophical' arguments with your DW as well?

I will say that, after several 'discussions' over the last several years with my DH on this very topic, there is no answer to this question that can be agreed upon by both parties.

I am not a clean freak, but can't deal with disorganized clutter house. You don't want to come visit my house especially when mommy is in a bad mood - every piece of lego and DVD on the floor would get tossed outside. I just don't want sH%t all over the house. I have a particular issue with DH leaving empty yogurt cup and such on the coffee table, my office desk, etc. I try to close my eyes in our/kids bedrooms, until every other Thursday night - before a cleaning lady comes.

The problem is b). I've tried the piles system of organizing, in the end it just doesn't work well. You can make it work with one person, as soon as you have two it just goes to hell (as does pretty much any organizational system, in my experience).

Of course, you've got rugrats so d) is out before you even get started.

Part of the problem is that modern society tells us we need stuff. For instance, the only things in my living room right now are a TV, a couch and a coffee table. And I can find pretty much anything I need. But it feels empty. So soon I'll have to go buy stuff and fill it up. And then I won't be able to find anything again.

Yes!! I am definitely a 'dumper', DH is a 'keeper'. I hate clutter, he seems to thrive on it. It's a never-ending battle!

I am with you guys. I cannot STAND clutter. It makes me get headache and stresses me out. I need everything to be in it's place. And I get rid of stuff too, all the stuff that you accumulate, most of it is junk that just takes up space and adds to the clutter!!!
