I'm fascinated by this race.

Some day, I'd love to do it....maybe with a LIT group?

Dunno.

At the same time, it seems a little (a LOT ) intimidating.

But, one that would be good to add to the "list."

So, assuming it is NOT on the Jewish holidays next year, Scoobs, stitcher, Moco, Adco and some others and we can put in a team :)

Effort/difficulty-wise I don't think I'd put it even in the same league as a half-Iron. Maybe I am underestimating but even with 20mi to run over 3 legs I'd put it at around Oly-distance difficulty. There's not even any swimming in the ocean in Maine or broken bike cleats to have to pedal on. There's the whole sleep-deprivation thing I guess. Maybe I should be more worried?

Yup, this & last year. Prior to that I was on a team my running club had, and one year I was on an ultra team.

It's definitely one to add! This is by far the most fun race I've ever run!

I have never done a Half-Iron, or even a tri, but I wouldn't say it's close unless you were to do an ultra team (which I found was harder than running a marathon!). Due to the sleep deprivation, I'd liken running 3x to running a half marathon, 4x to running maybe a 20-25miler. Definitely do-able if you can deal with the lack of sleep, close quarters, and craziness!

I am training for an early October half-marathon (my first) so it sounds like I've got it covered. I can put up with a lot in the name of having an experience. I also think that if I can finish the Lobsterman Triathlon (albeit only an Oly-distance tri) I can do this!

Ok.....so we've got the 2013 plan....

Now we need a RTB plan, too.

For those who have done it before, what's a ball-park estimate for cost (knowing that certain things fluctuate, like gas, van/truck rental, etc.) per team member?

Registration: This year it was $1160 per team, so for 10 people it was $116, for 12 people it would be $97.

Van Rental & Gas: I think last year for a 10-person team, it was @$125/person when all was said & done ... I think this also included cost for van food, beverages, and supplies.

We also split hotel rooms the night before the race (Thurs night) & then the night we finished (Sat night). Cost on those varies. This year our rooms (for 3-4 people each) are @$140 ea/ night ... so split 4 ways it's @$70 / person for 2 nights.

So, looking at @$300/person give or take when all is said & done. It's always been worth it, IMO.

This is due in "pieces," right?

So, the registration money due at one time, the van rental at others?

I'm thinking that spreading out the cost is a little easier to handle, than all at once.....

That's what makes IM registration so daunting...well, not JUST that.....the hefty price up front.
