<span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><span style="color:#003366;">DS, Will, and I went to a taping studio last spring, where we taped a segment for a Nova show. He was recruited through the childhood cognitive development program at MIT, where he is in preschool. He had to do several tasks related to childhood development. He did 2 segments, which were both great fun. The first was all about delayed gratification (the Mischel's Marshmallow Test). He looked super cute on camera, but he "failed" the test. Of course, you can't really "fail" the test...and they say that children don't begin to develop the capability for delayed gratification until age 4, but of course, I thought he'd be advanced at age 3! <img alt="" src="http://home.ourlittleuniverse.com/images/smilies/heee.gif" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br>
The 2nd segment was all about the difference between implicit vs explicit learning. I'm not as clear on the concept of this test, and I'll have to read all about it, but Will had a fun time with it.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><span style="color:#003366;">Of course, I couldn't take photos during the taping itself, but in between "takes" I snapped a few photos. (Yes, they used the clapper thingie in between takes and Will really wanted to play with it!)</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><span style="color:#003366;">Will explored the studio with his "teacher" as the film crew made some last minute adjustments.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><span style="color:#003366;"><img alt="" src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7d828b3127cce855cb2219b8d00000026109AcuWjho0ak" style="border:0px solid;"></span></span><br><br><span style="color:#003366;"><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">No shoes were allowed in the studio, so everyone was barefoot.</span></span><br><br><br><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><span style="color:#003366;"><img alt="" src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7d828b3127cce855cb2081a9400000026109AcuWjho0ak" style="border:0px solid;"></span></span><br><br><span style="color:#003366;"><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">He had fun marching over the "train tracks" (actually the tracks for the moving camera that panned around the scene)</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><span style="color:#003366;"><img alt="" src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7d828b3127cce855cb2bd9b1100000026109AcuWjho0ak" style="border:0px solid;"></span></span><br><br><br><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><span style="color:#003366;">The crew had to work on taping down the red table cloth, because it kept sliding as Will manipulated the toy on the table. But, as it turns out, the program is not specifically about human childhood development. How cool is that? Wasn't he on another Nova show a while back? I'm chuckling over the Ape Genius title. I was showing MrC and we were laughing about how we were just glad our boys didn't end up on <i>America's Most Wanted</i> let alone a show on Nova about geniuses (ape or human). Just kidding, they were good boys most of the time but I do have some dandy stories. I probably won't get around to watching it but be sure to let us know how it goes.<br><br>
Nice photos -- love those red curls.

This is so cool! I'll be checking our schedule to see if it's on here on the 19th. I love NOVA, and I'll name drop that Dr. Neil Tyson is a friend of ours! His DW is my sister's best friend from childhood! Small world, no?

I just went to the DirecTV web site and (theoretically) programmed the show into my DVR from there. Can't wait to see it and say "I know that kid's mom!"
