1. Why do you run?

I started to run to lose weight and the lovely E was running and part of the local running community. I stay running because I enjoy it and it keeps the unwanted pounds off.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment?

I am not sure I have a greatest accomplishment. I have had many accomplishments that I am proud of. Earning the title Marine is a big one. Getting and staying in shape is another one. I have made some major lifestyle changes and due to them my life certainly has been enriched.

3. What is your motto/theme song?

No theme song that I can think of.
Motto: Quitting is not an option. Once you remove quitting from the list of possible options almost anything is possible.

4. How do you deal with bad runs?

I am not sure I believe in bad runs. Every run is an opportunity for which I am grateful. Runs that don't go according to plan always teach me something about myself.
5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?

No rewards for good runs since all of my runs are good if for no other reason than I had the ability and opportunity to be able to run. There are people all over the world who due to war, famine, disease, etc. who do not have the luxury to go out and run.

6. Who do you admire most?

I admire everyday people who take the time to be kind to in some way make our world a better place. Most of these acts of kindness go unrecognized and unnoticed except to those directly involved.

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?

Be excellent to eachother. Which to me means to not be selfish and to do what I can to brighten somebody else's day.

8. What do wish you had learned younger?

That there's nothing wrong with being who I am. Nerds are people too.

9. What do you wish you could do but can't?

Travel more.

10. How would your friends describe your personality?

Funny, insightful.
11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?

No favorite outfit except orange shorts during races.

12. What has been your favorite race?

Western States 2007.
13. Do you have a goal race right now?

Maybe Western States 2008 depending on the lottery. If not I may try to run the Grand Tetons so I can meet and maybe even run with one of my ultra idols merigayle.

14. What makes you happy?

Spending time with people I love.

15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.

It might be easier to come up with things I wish I hadn't said here. I can't think of anything.

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!).

I don't know anyone's secrets. Most of what I know about any of you I learned here in the forums.

Did I miss anything?

When is your birthday? Oh wait, never mind.

So Tim, since you've run Western States, a trail race through the mountains, any chance I can convince you to try the Equinox?

What's it like to cross the finish line of a 100 mile race?

Thanks for a look into Tim and the world of the Orange Shorts.
By all accounts (and I have my sources ) you are a first class person & runner. It would be my good fortune to meet you someday.

I decided to attempt ultras because I wanted to find my boundaries. Just how far can I push my body if I train it properly? So far 100.2. That might be far enough.

I have thought about Equinox. I hope to be able to work it into my 2009 schedule. I doubt that it will work sooner.

Crossing the finish line at Western States was the most incredible experience for me. If I didn't have to rush to the emergency room I may have enjoyed it a little more.

Thanks hup. Did we talk on the phone after WS or was that some kind of drug induced auditory hallucination?

The latter. Actually, Rocketpack texted(?) me on Friday while he was there with Muddy and maybe with you too. Let's just say that we have practically talked on the phone.
BTW, I ran yesterday with my friend David. He is a 2 time WS silver buckle earner and my all time running idol. He is 53 years old and is training to go sub 3 at CIM. He ran an 18:15ish 5K yesterday .... my money is on him to dip under 3 It is my honor and privilege each and every time I get to run with him. Great runner, great person ... a lot like I imagine you to be.

Take care, Tim -
Tim, it was great to read more about you.

How many years have you been seriously running or training for something? What kind of shoes do you run in? In case you didn't know, I'd like to crew for you at WS08.

Running for 5 years - serious about 50% of the time.

Shoes: Brooks Cascadia's usually. I also have a couple of pairs of Inov8's that served me well up until WS when they gave me blisters.

I would love to have you crew. It's crazy hard work.
