The conversations on the two weight loss threads have me contemplating buying a scale. Not so that I can become obsessed with a number, but I do have a goal of losing another 10 lbs and I would like to rely on my own scale rather than the gym scales - which may or may not always be accurate. I have not owned a scale in 20+ yrs.

So, I have $50 in Amazon gift certificates (from my amazon visa) just sitting there and thought maybe I'd purchase one. There are so many different kinds though. Do I want the ones with the extra bells and whistles that give body fat %, body water %, etc. Are they really that accurate? And there are many different models.

Therefore, I'm asking you all, for those that have an opinion one way or another, what your 2 cents is on scales, models, etc.

Don't mess with % body fat, no scale can do what the calipers etc. can do, and it's just something else that can break.

Health-o-meter is a good reliable brand.

http://www.amazon.com/Health-Meter-H...6641771&sr=1-2

This is what you want to spend your $50 on.

http://www.amazon.com/Enzo-Angiolini...6641918&sr=1-6

Yeah, forget the body fat stuff.

I have a Tanita. Nothing fancy but very consistent. A solar-powered digital scale is the way to go.

Sheesh, how many times can you use the word sexy when you're talking about shoes?

No, I don't really want to know.

Hubba, hubba! I'll take mine in red, thank you. Actually, I think she'd be better off with one of these.

I have a Tanita. The body fat measurement is a waste of time and money. The weight measurement, however, appears to be accurate and consistent.

If I can fit into the teenytiny Little Black Dress, body fat is good enough.

so does that mean that during the winter months when we rarely see the sun here in the PNW, the scale doesn't work? Not sure I want to go that route then . . .

. . . .
(I take artistic license to change the lyrics)

And I'm too sexy for my shoes
Too sexy for my shoes
No way I'm disco dancing

I'm a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah
I do my little turn on the catwalk

I'm too sexy for my shoes

I like the hydration measure on mine and I tend to agree about the body fat accuracy. There's an inverse correlation between the two-when my hydration is where it should be, above 61%, my body fat comes up pretty good (around 14%) and is accurate. But when it's down around 60% or lower, my body fat comes up really high. By the way, I wouldn't dare step on the scales now because I just had two burgers and a chocolate shake-isn't that disgusting!

ETA-I just heard that song on the radio this morning on my way here and was singing along (but that was after a bowl of Kashi hot cereal).

The lights in your house will power a so-called solar powered scale. My scale wakes up about 3 seconds after I turn on the lights.

Opie's version is along the lines of "I'm too sexy for my swimtrunks, too sexy for my swimtrunks"

Sure, Tamster.

I think "solar powered" is a stupid term. Ultimately, all our energy comes from the sun. Even the Hummer that SS has her eye on is solar powered.

..tammy//......the trick is to get one with % bodyfat, kilo/stone/lb weights.....all the Bells and Whistles.....

......then set it for ''Stone''
because you don't know how much that is anyway....

(although I was watching a
show about Pirates (go figure)
and they said how
many pounds a ''stone'' was......sigh......)

but The Concept is Good.........it becomes more Theoretical than, like, Weight//////

Mil, are you wearing those things with the toesies? I saw your link to those earlier and thought they'd be fun to try...

And boy am I out of it... I didn't even know Amazon sold shoes and little sexy dresses.

I just have a regular digital scale. Works for me. Measures in half pound increments. I don't think the body fat scales are very accurate... It has a "lifelong" lithium battery. Don't know whose life they're using, but we've had it for several years and it still works fine.
