1. Why do you run?
Because I like it, it's made me the healthiest I've ever been, and because four years ago, I made a commitment to run a mile for every American soldier killed in Iraq.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
My kids, 12 and 14-probably more my DW's accomplishment than mine.

3. What is your motto/theme song?
I'm a Maniac, Maniac...

4. How do you deal with bad runs?
Vent a little spleen to my buddies here and move on.

5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?
Ice cold beer, so I try to make sure every run's a good one!

6. Who do you admire most?
I can't answer this with one person-there's too many.

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?
That at the age of forty, even though I wasn't a runner, I could finish a marathon.

8. What do wish you had learned younger?
That I was meant to be a runner.

Get an important job in DC when the new Dem. administration comes in.

10. How would your friends describe your personality?
Funny but focused. Let's see if they agree.

11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?
Brooks. I'm sponspored by them now.

12. What has been your favorite race?
Different ones for different reasons. A cool medal, a finisher's tech shirt, beer at the finish-those are all important.

13. Do you have a goal race right now?
Eisenhower Half Marathon in two weeks-to break 2 hours.

14. What makes you happy?
When the kids do something out of the blue, like do their chores or give me a hug.

I ran for State Senate in 1996.

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!).
I could have some fun with this, but I think the other people would object.

Thanks, Opie! It was a pleasure to meet you at RVM. You run and run and run - and manage to do it smart so you're getting faster without injury. You're doing things right!

Like Sal, I am also amazed at your ability to log so many miles without injury and have also noticed your increase in speed. Thanks for participating in the POTD and hope to meet you in person some day. Happy trails....
